PSA: AHs don't ruin games, Designers ruin games

Pretty sure trading ruins games. Not sure if it's been said yet in this thread but... just my 2 cents.
The facts are that GGG balances around trading making it an actual necessity if you wish to progress on any pace other than snails. |

Auction house AND design ruined the game.

" I don't believe they do with drops. The itemization adds new layers of RNG without removing old layers to constantly lower quality of the gear compared to the content it's found in, thus encouraging trade. D3 pulled a similar move on release (they did phase out obsolete affixes, but they had affix tier overlap to create essentially the same situation), but their items and mechanics were far more boring, making it all the more apparent. No. Calm down. Learn to enjoy losing.

" ^ This x 10000 if you actually think they balance this game around self found. But pretty sure you trolling though hahahaha. I was a STAUNCH self found player until about 2 months into Ambush - and then I used about 40x chaos and got max resists, high health, and amazing stats within 5 mins of wanting it via XYZ. I am basically going to continue trading now and going to extend that to trying to open a shop and selling too. Because of how incredibly easy it is. I have lost an incredible amount of time in this game by refusing to trade. That's on me. However the ridiculous imbalance between self found to trading is on GGG's poor balance design. Trading is INCREDIBLY OP in this game. |

One thing i noted after reading nearly everything is that all of the "supporters" here, posted against the AH idea. Strange that don't you agree? As someone said, a small ammount of "bastard elitists". I think i get it.
Just sharing my experience here with you all. I've been playing mmorpg for far more than 8 years. And i've never found a game with such frustrating and time wasting experiencie like i found here on PoE. I think everyone just wanna play the damn game. Sitting in town spamming the trade chat is NOT FUN. Isn't this game supposed to be "ACTION"? |

Personally the trading is not that bad now with the xyz its helped a lot and really diminished the chances of getting ripped in the bongholio on a trade.
Personally the only reason i could see to implement an auction house would be to stop RMTers with a scramble code only a person could type in to post an item alongside the removal of player to player trade and a permanent item allocation on player dropped items in instances. As for good items i find if they're of no use to me and not a 15% plus gem or worth an exalt or two i just give them away to a noob who will make use of it. And thats only half the time i don't like dealing with the in game trading or forum trading. I seriously gave away 14% double strike and two 15% plus glacial cascades this month on top of numerous rares and uniques i have one of already. However i am against people wanting my free stuff to make money off of that's just douchebaggery i usually tend to hunt down a newbie in his own instance. As for self found or traded gear look at it like this. The guy who spends more than half his time trading for better gear is gonna feel like he doesn't find anything of use because you werent working the rng like your babys mama. My point is just play the freakin game i tend to find the gear i can't buy and buy the gear i can't find its damn near in perfect tandem. The reason people are always trying to get more bang than the bucks is worth in trade is cuz most people are trying to copy someone instead of trying their own thing. P.S I personally hate streamers and everyone who is always trying what their doing. The reason we like poe is cuz it steered away from the linear diablo style arpg and leaves room to find your own way to faceroll the game. |

The entire crux of the argument seems to be that there are only two kinds of players in this game: scrubs who don't have two alterations to rub together and filthy RMTers with millions of exalts to waste. The argument that "the little guy can't sell his mediocre gear" is total crap. There will ALWAYS be more people in the middle ground than in either of the two groups listed above. The mediocre gear will sell like hotcakes because most people wont have the cash to reach the godly gear, and rightfully so, just as it is now. The middle class will have to settle for the less than perfect gear and lower tier uniques, and later in the game you will spend ridiculous amounts of currency for minor upgrades. Most people wont even bother with the last part and will simply roll a new character when they can't really move forward any more.
All of this ALREADY happens on POE.XYZ. You see the items you want but can't have because you don't have the 30 exalts they want for it, so you settle for the items the little guy is selling at 3 exalts because they don't have the best rolls, or lack in a few key areas. Then you play with your upgraded-but-not-perfect gear until you have the currency for that perfectly rolled item. The little guy will flourish with an AH because there will be more access for all to the item pool that exists and the middle ground is way more occupied than either side of the equation. Every game I have ever played with an AH has seen no trouble in selling mid-tier gear. In fact, I have always made my money in any of the games selling mostly mediocre gear because it moves so fast. And quite honestly, if YOU are having trouble selling mediocre gear it is because of the lack of availability or because what you are selling is garbage, not mediocre. I WOULD have bought your sub-par boots of suckitude, but you weren't online and by the time you were online I already bought or found something else, or I outleveled it. I can't count the number of leveling items I would have bought from players on POE.XYZ but they weren't online or didn't respond to my whispers. If they had their stuff on an AH, they would be 10 - 20c richer and I would have the items I wanted and I would be out there saving Wraeclast. And for the argument of item flippers.... so what? They already exist in POE and every game has people that have more fun sitting in front of the AH and buying / selling items just to see their stack of money grow. That is fun for them and you should be ashamed for not wanting them to enjoy the game too. You enjoy it your way, they will enjoy it their way. That is how economies work. As for the argument of inflation. Standard is not inflated because of anything other than being permanent and for being the dumping ground for every dead hardcore character and the remnants of the 4 month leagues. The economy will bear what it can handle and that is determined by the amount of currency available at any given time. The 4 month leagues will always have a better economy because they are flushed into standard every 4 months, and inflation will occur every 4 months in standard as a crapload of new items and currency are dumped into it. TL;DR - L2Economy |
