PSA: AHs don't ruin games, Designers ruin games
path of nurfs ruins the game too. its just not fun to spend hundrets of hours into one build that gets nurfed into the ground.

ONE reason D3 sucked was the AH.
It's not the only reason. ONE reason I don't like PoE now is because it's a tradebased and not a playbased(crafting, playing) game. I don't like trading. In CB I never needed to trade. Drop rates are bad. Crafting is bad because mods don't have got equal chances. |

" If the reason many are against an AH because it will make for flipper bots that ruin it then GGG would have to use some kind of captcha. "CAPTCHA is a program that protects websites against bots by generating and grading tests that humans can pass but current computer programs cannot." "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration. The perfect solution to fix Trade Chat: www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2247070 |

" There are many ways to prevent bots from trading. - Cap the number of trades you can do in the AH per day. Normal player trade in game needs not be affected. - Charge an auction fee which increases with each item sold within a certain time period. - Prevent you from selling an item you have bought within the previous x hours. This would also prevent item flipping, which may or may not be a good thing. etc... I'm all for automated trading to equiop my char or sell off duplicate items. I much prefer slaying monsters to trading. And the drop rates do require trading unless you have lots and lots of time+patience. May your maps be bountiful, exile

An auction house doesn't do anything except show how trading can ruin the game for players who expect to find stuff by playing the game. That's why I don't trade... even for specific items that I know I'm never likely to find. I enjoy finding stuff, but more importantly, I enjoy wanting to find stuff. I'd ignore an AH in PoE exactly like I ignored it in D3, and currently ignore XYZ.
What bothers me is that the game is built by designers that assume we trade. That is wrong, and it's exactly why many players choose not to bother playing. They get to a "gear check" and quit, or they see "build of the week" videos that have no resemblance at all to the game they're playing and quit. That bothers me. They're told on the forums when they find a really nifty item that it's vendor trash, simply because they could trade for better. Putting an AH in game would help some players, but it would likely lose just as many. |

" Its not that easy, capping number of trades effects real players probably more than bots as bots are used to to search for valuable items that are put into auctionhouse for low price so they can buy it very fast and make a huge profit they doesnt need to buy and sell thousand items a day just a few valueable ones which they iwll buy so fast that you have zero chance of purchasing them manually faster about the charge fee, again its hurting more the players than the flippers bots, like flippers used to sell single big items while the normal player sells a lot of small things preventing flipping by setting a time limit does nothing but only force the bot using flipper to wait before he can make some profit and about captcha it doesnt work, either there are ways around it if they are to easy and if are to blurred they get annoying, again this goes to the cost of players. Also how you want to accomplish a captcha for every search action in poe.xyz you want a captcha? this would annoy me so much that i wouldnt want to trade at all. SO all in all if you guys want a full automated auctionhouse, then you implicit saying that you also want bots to run, well i would be fine if everyone then have access to the auctionhouse bots which are then officially made by GGG. " Nice dodge yourself :) OP was talking about D3 AH. You were talking about AH in other games which work exactly like the AH in D3. Poe.xyz works vastly different from all of those AHs and is therefore definitely not an AH. This has nothing to do with semantics, but with how actual AHs were implemented into many games. I also said the same thing as you in this thread, if GGG implements something like poe.xyz into the game I'd be happy. And no, that wouldn't be an AH, it would be much slower and less efficient. GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence. Last edited by Xavderion#3432 on Jul 2, 2014, 10:28:41 AM

" But here's the thing - the developers don't assume we all trade, they give us the choice to trade if we want to or not trade and play self-found if we don't want to trade. Having more choice is almost always better than having less choice; and yes, the choice to play self-found is obviously harder and less convenient and will make your progression take longer, but since it's your choice, you have to also accept the consequences of the choice you choose to make. Since i've just bought myself a new PC this week (partly for PoE to run better), here's an example: you're deciding on either buying a new PC or sticking with your old PC. If you buy a new PC, you will be obviously able to play new games and all your older games will also run much better and faster. If you however decide to not buy a new PC, you won't be able to play new games and your old games will run just as slow as they have up to that point. But it makes no sense to go on a computer forum and complain about how all the new games require a "PC gear-check", how they only run very slowly and in low resolution on your old PC and how others who bought a new PC are able to play games faster and better. Like with most things in life, you can't have everything you wish for (aka perfect builds and fast progression with self-found gear) but you have to choose one way or the other.
