PSA: AHs don't ruin games, Designers ruin games

How hard can it be to design an in-game method to put your items up for sale and conduct an asynchronous transaction?

It isn't difficult whatsoever. It's even easier to write a script for a player's computer to interact with an Auction House all day long, flipping items and hoarding currency. Granted, with the current system, you can still play Trade Tycoon all day, but you can't have it done automatically with a bot nearly as easily. In the current system, you have to make the choice to trade instead of playing the game.
Look, man. Video games are hard, okay?
potential argument: But I don't want to spend all my time trading I want to play!

Real Story: Let us compare to see what takes more time:

1. Scan the forums for 20 minutes, find nothing useful
2. Spam in game for a while get no responses
3. repeat 4 times to finally find a forum post where someone has an item you need but they are offline.
4. Add this guy the guy you need to contact to your friends list
5. Check your friends list each day to see if he is online
6. Continually keep playing the game but you can't find the upgrade you need, even though it isn't godly it is pretty good and sort of niche, so the only way you could get every drop you need to always drop for you is if drop rates were so high as to make all gear totally trivial.
7. Finally get in contact with the guy you need but he has no buyouts listed, so you ask for a purchase price and he just ignores you.
8. You make an offer and get this response, "LOL Nub, offers in chaos only or gtfo, nty bai."
9. Repeat the process over 3 more times to finally get an upgrade.

Time Spent searching forums, "negotiating" (which mostly means getting rudely attacked by people or ignored), spamming etc.: 4 hours for 1 upgrade

Alternate universe with an efficient market:

Search market buy upgrades at fixed prices regardless of whether people are online or offline at that moment in time.

Time Spent to get all upgrades need/can afford: 20 minutes.

Then I spend the other 3 hours + I would have spent on the old system ACTUALLY PLAYING THE GAME.

So to all of you who say you don't want to get buried in the annoyance and time consumption of a trading game but would rather kill monsters why on heaven are you against an actual efficient market? What kind of drugs are you consuming and are you willing to share?

P.S. "LOL Nub, Offers in chaos only or gtfo, nty bai" are you really going to miss this "quality" (sarcasm) human interaction? I'd personally rather spend my time getting trades done quickly and enjoying being social with my friends instead of arguing with random people.

Looking for more guild members for races/4 month hc leagues, pm for info

Sorry to say that ... But if i use poe xzy for an item it take me 3 minutes to get it and if it's a big one it can take 10 minutes, is online or not thats simple and fast.

And for insults

i dont know wich game you are playing but those kind of reaction come rarely or it can be your fault because you lowballed on the chaos equivalent... If i try to bargain it often end up into "i can do that" or "ok" or anything decent dialogue.

Deforming the truth by deny isnt a good way.

The entire crux of the argument seems to be that there are only two kinds of players in this game: scrubs who don't have two alterations to rub together and filthy RMTers with millions of exalts to waste. The argument that "the little guy can't sell his mediocre gear" is total crap. There will ALWAYS be more people in the middle ground than in either of the two groups listed above. The mediocre gear will sell like hotcakes because most people wont have the cash to reach the godly gear, and rightfully so, just as it is now. The middle class will have to settle for the less than perfect gear and lower tier uniques, and later in the game you will spend ridiculous amounts of currency for minor upgrades. Most people wont even bother with the last part and will simply roll a new character when they can't really move forward any more.

All of this ALREADY happens on POE.XYZ. You see the items you want but can't have because you don't have the 30 exalts they want for it, so you settle for the items the little guy is selling at 3 exalts because they don't have the best rolls, or lack in a few key areas. Then you play with your upgraded-but-not-perfect gear until you have the currency for that perfectly rolled item. The little guy will flourish with an AH because there will be more access for all to the item pool that exists and the middle ground is way more occupied than either side of the equation.

Every game I have ever played with an AH has seen no trouble in selling mid-tier gear. In fact, I have always made my money in any of the games selling mostly mediocre gear because it moves so fast. And quite honestly, if YOU are having trouble selling mediocre gear it is because of the lack of availability or because what you are selling is garbage, not mediocre. I WOULD have bought your sub-par boots of suckitude, but you weren't online and by the time you were online I already bought or found something else, or I outleveled it. I can't count the number of leveling items I would have bought from players on POE.XYZ but they weren't online or didn't respond to my whispers. If they had their stuff on an AH, they would be 10 - 20c richer and I would have the items I wanted and I would be out there saving Wraeclast.

Have you ever tried selling mediocre gear in Standard? It's near impossible. And that's in a game without a real AH, now imagine how the economy would look like with one. I'd also like to know what other games with an AH and zero soulbound items exist. I really don't know of any.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
The reason there is no AH is the same reason people want an AH. People don't always want what's best for them in the long run.
even for blizzard, they cant handle AH properly.
LEL....

There really needs to be 3 tiers of mtx. Low end (1-10), middle (10-30), and high end 40+.

I get what you're saying OP, but you're comparing a game with how many players? Several million? They can afford to charge a pittance because of how LARGE the player base is.

There's plenty of middle priced, at least to me, mtx content. Would love to see more both low and high end.

P.S. I don't even like the ghost effects that much. The sets are looking amazing lately.

Wrong thread :P

I honestly wouldn't mind one. I don't think the whole trading person to person would be that bad if people would just check their threads everyday. There's nothing that annoys me more than someone who puts up "Quitting: Selling all my gear" and then checks their thread like once a week.

So you skip points 1-3. That's not so big improvement, you still have to complete 4-9.
I had experienced something similar to TEBird;s situation once - searched for an item (in xyz, mind you), found 3 or 4 sellers (with buyouts), but couldn't buy from anybody - not because we didn't agree on cost, no, they just were offline all the time. After roughly a month bought it from a guildie (who didn't even know that I need it, he just asked in guildchat if anybody wtb that item xD)
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.
