RMT Wins. Fatality!

Chris has stated that the economy is the most important part of PoE to them.

That's just false. I follow all GGG posts/interviews/Q and As very closely. He never said that.

Don't spread false information to push your agenda in a discussion.

You obviously don't know anything because it IS true.

http://pathofexile.wikia.com/wiki/Rethinking_gold_as_a_Currency Here a link to the wiki version of it as I think they have removed it from the official site, I would be embarrassed by that stupidity and remove also if I was Chris.

Unbelievable, I know, but Chris actually believes this is 'THE core aRPG element'.
The core element for him and the D2**p people like him, maybe. THE core aRPG element? No.

I'm pretty sure Chris was rather competitive in D2. Trading/RMT/account sharing/boosting are how you bypassed the games normal progression. If you weren't doing some combination of those, you weren't playing competitively, so it stands to reason the economy would be an important aspect to him.

No. Calm down. Learn to enjoy losing.
Honestly I wouldn't care at all if Chris really did hold that view if they could balance the economy better with the individual's play experience.

The best you can do is make the global market highly accessible for the individual. Usually, this has been accomplished with some sort of buying and selling platform.

the thread took the direction I wished it did, and has multiple posts by people who care about the game, the players' experiences, and are not willing to let neither RMT nor RMT-encouraging design decisions ruin that.

I couldn't be more happy right now.

and as additional clarification, no my OP is not a troll post - but yes it is phrased like that because more calmly-phrased ones always get moved to some god-forsaken sub-forum, ignored by GGG, or both.

I honestly think people complain for the sake of complaining. I started in December and play on both Standard and Ambush. I don't have considerable wealth on either toon, and I find both economys pretty healthy. While I can't afford some of the most uber stuff (why should I be able to being so new?), I can equip my toons properly to handily and enjoyably handle the game's content. Any RMT going on literally doesn't impact my gameplay one bit.

Sometimes I wonder if the loudest "RMT" mouths are't also the biggest RMTers just trying to redirect people opinions of them.

if top-end uniques weren't as stupid hard to get... people might not be so inclined to RMT. As for me, I won't ever play this game again until they make top-end uniques way more available. I refuse to spend more time in trade than playing just to get a build-enabling Shavronne.

coming from a game like ultima online, where players were literally selling their irl car to buy items in game, the rmt in PoE is pretty minimal.

Literally, in ultima online, you could sell the right account for 10k+ USD, on ebay. (we are talking legacy castle, 8+ years of unselected veteran rewards, the stupid(aweome) blue gloves that spawned once every three months or w/e per server and you had to be a thief to steal them from the game, unselected AoS rewards, select legacy goods (specifically bugged items or legacy server first spawns etc)).

People actually became famous irl for UO RMT (see markee dragon).

A famous poe player told me about his friend who sold his POE ACCOUNT to a relative(was it?), anyway a car was involved in the sale.
It was during Open beta, before Anarchy/Onslaught.

@John :

Players can get multiple hundreds of exalts by trading and/or scamming/selling maps/being the first to make mirrored items/ buy the legacy items first..etc
Example :
http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/543302
And i have 1 legacy kaoms + 1 mirror in the stash.

---

If you wanted to prove that RMT performed a FATALITY on PoE markets, you could have talked about it when 3 new almost perfect daggers were made within 2 days, after someone(with his friend?) made the first one.
(None of the three standard market rulers wanted to let him be the only Real GG mirror service provider, so they made ones.
See it like Tablets market war in real life)
Good vaal orbs : http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/840813
Bad ones : http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/812199

The way atziri content is supposed to be accessed is also proof of this, from day one "the correct way to farm midnights" has been to buy them, if you want to do multiple runs.

indeed
otherwise why up midnight drop rate twice (?)
@VaultzInex (Inexium? stop making alts :)), I'm not much of an economist - but I see it as a "producer/consumer" thing: people scam and flip for hundreds of exalts, but those exalts have to come from somewhere, right?

just like in inflation the prices sky-rocket, but someone is printing the money.

assuming in Open Beta we (theoretically) had one guy per league with 200+ exalts/equivalent, and 10 more guys with 100+ exalts, and a Kaom's Heart cost 50 - and now we have 10 guys with 1000+ exalts, 50 more with 500+, and a Kaom's Heart costs 300.

well the drop rates are just like in Open Beta. maybe slightly less random because GGG did actually introduce semi-risk/reward elements to the game (boxes, invaders).
but you don't suddenly drop a stack of 10 Chaos where you usually dropped one in OB, nor does the chaos recipe suddenly give you a ton of orbs every time, instead of 1-2.

so where does this "virtual money" come from?
the answer, is pretty obvious.
even if these uber-rich flippers/scammers don't RMT personally (and I'm sure at least some of them do) - their orbs certainly come from RMT, after changing a few hands.
and then prices jump accordingly, while the RNG-layered design stays the same - so it's a cycle that feeds itself.

and the impact on the game is pretty clear, despite some people saying "well it's not Ultima".
when PoE becomes Ultima, it will be far, far too late.
