RMT Wins. Fatality!
in Open Beta, some people "worth" ~200 Exalts were considered insanely rich. kingpins of trade. flip-lords holding an entire league's economy in their hands.
now, there are items selling for 2x that. there's no denying the overall amount of currency in the game multiplied since OB, but for individuals to have such amounts, and be enough in number (of people) to sustain so-called "high end trade"? you do the math, and make conclusions. think about the only place, where all of this currency can come from. the only way so much could end up in the stash tabs of so many, even if many (most?) of them never did RMT directly. I rarely make threads about economy - because quite frankly I don't give a damn - but I do care about the scum of the earth coming in, and taking over the game. GGG have lost the battle against RMT, and the war. now, it's just a slaughter. and that's assuming they did fight, rather than just swing through the air and pretend to. you know what? I'll just put my tin foil hat on and take a guess that's exactly what they wanted, because the layered-RNG zero-risk/reward design of the game practically screams it. if so, at least they could go all-in and make the game P2W. make the RMT money go directly to GGG, to fund salaries and future development. I'd probably leave if they did, but it's a hell of a lot better than funding some Chinese bot-masters. Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat

Well, nice read and all, but without any kind of proof / evidence this is just it - a talk. There is no reason to believe that your "GGG have lost the battle against RMT, and the war." is something more than a superstition.
If you are talking about Standard economy - to hell with that, honestly. The 4th month leagues is where the game lies, at least for me. If you are talking about Ambush / Invasion - I am not aware about such prices being common. |

" that would probably help ban those 3 guys I_NO mentioned, but will do little to stop RMT. I'm talking about RMT as a phenomenon, rather than RMTers. a scourge. and the scourge of RMT has by now completely taken over the game. " If you can email us about these accounts and any evidence you think is relevant that would be really good. We investigate and ban botters / RMT'ers frequently through our own methods but having community input does help (and we don't receive such emails as often as some might think) edit: support@grindinggear.com Last edited by Michael_GGG#0000 on May 19, 2014, 3:02:38 AM

A bit off topic here but John I have this sick fascination with how long you have played this game and apparently don't have anything of much value. I have to wonder what your doing so wrong either in trading or playing the game.

I don't think that RMT is encouranged by GGG in any way shape or form, even by their design. I do however believe that GGG unintentionaly promoted it due to the free to play model and ridiculous layering of RNG.
I also believe that D3 had a hand in making RMT more "acceptable" to average gamer with the addition of the Real Money Auction House. Before Blizzard implimented the RMAH, it was considerd a bannable offense in most online games, but once someone encouranges this practice, especialy a big name like Blizzard, it becomes even more commonplace, even within games where it is prohibited. This was the real danger of the RMAH, and many recognized that as soon as they announced it for D3. The problem with any system based heavily on RNG is that it is extraordinarily hard to obtain specific items, GGG is fine with this because it promotes trade, however, it also promotes RMT, which is basicaly another form of trade, and honestly, given how ineffecient the trading system is in PoE, I can see why people use RMT -- it is an efficient way to get what you want, so that you can continue playing the game without worrying about trading. This is not to say I condone RMT in any form, I believe anyone doing it should have their IP permanently banned, but GGG are not helping matters with the extremely unrewarding gameplay, where neither time nor risk = reward. |
