Brian's Feedback to Looting (quote from reddit)
" 1-2 seconds would do absolutely nothing to resolve this issue. If they are going to tell us that they are seriously discussing it or whatever then I would hope that they would do something substantial to placate the large part of their playerbase. Who cares how long it takes. I for one plan to be here for a long time. Those of you who plan to play for around a month should just get this game out of your system and move on. This game is made for people to stick around and enjoy for years.... Standard Forever

From my perspective I also don't see where people are coming from with the whole "living in a bubble argument" its sort of like the realism argument. Its a darn video game just how immersed do you have to be?? Does it kill the game experience for you when one player is doing one quest that you have already completed and he is seeing stuff that is completely invisible to you?
When I am chatting on mumble with other players who aren't even in my party I still feel like I am with them. I don't give a crap if the player next to me can see my loot or not. We are stil together on a team killing monsters. We still interact and trade. We are still having a great time. If you feel like your in a bubble with instanced loot then that is simply your perspective, don't force your perspective onto other players. For that matter I don't care if this game ever gets instanced loot. I would be happy with a longer timer and the ability to allocate my items to another player with a quick click. Just please fix the overwhelming screen clutter issues. Standard Forever

" Well said! I totally agree with this. Loot is such a touchy subject, I don't think it would take away anything to give people the option on how they want to play. I have a strong feeling more players would jump into public games if FFA were off. It's a way to guarantee the sort of co-operative civility that you get from IRL friends. TLDR- Allowing people an option to play without FFA doesn't take away your ability to play with FFA on if you want to. |

If they do implement an instanced loot option, it should also come with a drop rate penalty.
If you take the easy road, you shouldn't have the same reward. |

You mean the non-competitive road like single player??
Well they may as well put drop rate penalties in single player as well. Screw it, just remove single player and make the games public only. That way they can actually enforce their game philosophies. Oh and drop rate penalties on private parties to. We wouldn't want people taking the easy road by playing the game with friends and NOT competing for the drops. That would just be awful... All the incessant moaners on the train that everything needs to be fair should take themselves back to Blizzard games, where they will be assured to be coddled and babied. Stop carrying on about the loot and already messing up your diaper over it.
Loot is fine as is. Should be straight up FFA in fact. Everything is not fair, yes there is competition and no you won't always come out the best for it. |

Why don't they just open a paid, catered league with more friendly loot options (like instanced loot or something). That way the people who want FFA loot can stay in the normal league and those who hate it can play in a different league catered to their preferences?

Honestly, that 'bubble' that is referred to, is something I can understand to a point. Those that refuse to play in groups because of it also find themselves in a 'bubble' and it is no more like a multiplayer game. So you're still in that bubble, only those players, are in a bubble by themselves rather than with others.
However, Risk vs. Reward is a clear point to this game. I believe I've read that in groups more and better items drop. If that is the case, then you've got your risk vs. reward right there. No risk to solo but the items are on the lower end. Group up, you risk not getting as many drops, but also any drops you do get would be of a higher quality. So, all in all, I see this as a different approach that can be enjoyed still. I own D# and Torchlight 2 and I can honestly say, this approach is a bit of a breath of fresh air in some regards. I support GGG in this decision, at least for the present. I think if enough people stop playing and raise their voices, who knows, they might address it. Until then, I'll take that risk vs. reward and enjoy it :) EDIT: I'd also like to add, if a league was added for non-FFA, that they only get the same drop rates and drop qualities as if they soloed. You want equal footing? Play in an equal league. "Don't you know who I am?" Last edited by Johnggernaut#5318 on Feb 3, 2013, 7:19:29 AM

Why not just make the loot timer a static 10 seconds only after one of the story bosses (orange bosses, brutus, piety etc.) dies? That's the moment it bothers me most, cause my screen is usually so full of loot I have to walk up and down to see it all, and most of the ninjaing happens. After a boss like this dies there's a natural lull in the flow anyway cause everyone's checking out loot of the boss.
For the rest you can keep the FFA system to keep flow. What do you guys think about this? |
