Brian's Feedback to Looting (quote from reddit)
While I do see people playing in public games, I'd like to see MORE public games. I don't want this game to go the way of Diablo III's public games because the devs didn't listen.

one small thing i like about FFA loot. Whenever i join a group late, i enjoy that scavenger feel of picking up what they left behind as i make my way to catch up to them.
"i cant believe they left this behind...grab" its an awesome feeling. The loot feels more real in a way. its the small moments like this, that you cant find ANYWHERE else, is why im all for FFA. |

" But that slows the pace of the game, which Brian said he didn't want! " So are hardcore monsters actually more difficult? I don't see that written anywhere. I thought the only different thing about hardcore is that you "lose" your character if you die. I never noticed combat/monsters being more difficult than Default. On topic, I'd like items (magic, rare, unique) to be reserved for you, but instead of instanced I'd like that everyone can see them (like guild wars 1). Tough even in guild wars 2 where loot is instanced, people are still extremely friendly about sharing loot. (Didn't like that game much though, gw2, made me feel like a child.) Sorry about any typos, Android and my fingers don't get along very well, and I figure that a few typos are preferable over stomping on the tablet like a mad person.

" not that hardcore monsters are harder, but due to the nature of hardcore itself, you build more defensively and as such, your damage cant compare to those glass cannon builds from Default league making things take way more time to die. |

" This. For the first time since becoming a supporter, I am disappointed in GGG. Many, many people will NEVER play in a public game with the current loot system. How can you possibly not even care about that? Just add the damn option and let people play the game the way the want instead of the way you tell them to. Bah. I love your game, otherwise. It's a shame you're so closed minded about this. In a very grind heavy game the death penalty equates to...more grinding.

" That's because people are waiting to snag someone else's stuff. Otherwise they'd be out there killing monsters. So pure FFA is too unfair. Timed FFA, no matter the assigned time, drags the game because everyone's waiting for the bars to go away to ninja stuff. I believe the best thing is to mark people who take items that have been assigned to someone else. Like a red X in the portrait or something like that. Have it last a week. Let the communnity decide. EVE online has something similar in regards to player killing. There's a Security Status. It goes from 10 to 0. As you commit heinous acts, it starts going down. It's been while since I last played EVE, but if I recall it has two effects: as far as game mechanics, if I recall, concord no longer protects you in high sec areas or something like that. It also brands you for the rest of the playerbase. Carebears mistrust a pure 0 pilot, reds wear pure 0 as an award. Wait wait, why is he standing around waiting for his bars to decay?
In any event, he seems rather out of touch with the game as it is being currently played. Let him join a public group with a couple ninja loot types a few times and then see what he has to say. |

" Ayup, this about sums it up for me as well. While I support the right of GGG to make up their own mind how they want their own game to play out, for myself, FFA looting is a deal-breaker for me ever playing in a public game. I've yet to see anyone come up with a convincing argument on why it shouldn't be at least an option for group play either. Still, no game is perfect (as defined by each individuals opinion of what perfect would be), so until or unless this is change, I'll just stick to soloing and guild games. |

" ^ Best part of this statement right there. Proof that nothing is changing now, and the current system will remain in place for now. All you people thinking this game is going to go to instanced loot are going to have a big let down several months from now when the option to increase the loot timer by 1-2 seconds is added to the game lol....FFA FTW. The item is yours when it is in your bag. Last edited by Ushela#2383 on Feb 3, 2013, 2:51:55 AM

Until they fix this ignorant loot system the game will be flawed. If you cant tell by the hundreds of posts and thousands of reply's to them that this loot system is beyond ignorant then w/e.
And the hypocrisy of this decision by the devstaff is insane. They claim to not want a pay to win game and yet currently loot is completely pay to win. Since having even slightly better latency than the guy next to you or even slightly better rig to play on means you are much more likely to be able to grab the loot if that player lags. I personally multiple times have clicked an item that says my name and i get no response from the server only to have the item be grabbed by another player. All i can say is fuck that it sucks its ignorant this is 2013 fix this dumb ass part of the game please. Give us some kind of better loot system if you dont want instanced then give us options to set loot rules for rares and orbs some kind of rolls or something so that those of us that dont want to play with the ninja loot crowd can actually filter that out of the game. It isn't hardcore to have a better rig or connection and be able to grab the loot its just another form of pay to win and its being endorsed by people that pretend to be against pay to win. |
