Brian's Feedback to Looting (quote from reddit)

Right now all I am seeing is a war between 2 groups. One that wants FFA and the other that doesn't.

People on the FFA side feel as strong as people on the other side. Though when people from the FFA feel threatened, they turn to insults instead of backing up there argument or offering a proper rebuttal.

It makes it sounds like they are worried they will loose the FFA. Again what is the harm of offering loot rules before you join a party or limit FFA in HC?

Instead of coming up for reasons why, it normally just ends in insults or leave it as it is.

Kinda funny.

Says the guy that thinks someone calling you a "baby" is insulting...

You're playing a 16+yr Rated game right? You expect angels in the forums?

He's saying low risk* should have low reward. What makes that unreasonable?

His whole premise that FFA is high risk is what makes it unreasonable. There is no risk involved. I can join any party, not hit a single mob and grab all the loot. Does that seem like the hard way to you?

Not really surprising considering the only players such a system benefits are the griefers and leechers. They can't really come out and say "I like to grief and leech from other players" can they now? So instead they turn to insults like crybaby, selfish, gimme gimme, go back to d3 if you want ezmode; which most of the time is irrelevant to the argument and humorous considering their selfish reasons for wanting ffa in the first place.

There's a reason most games don't have ffa loot anymore, and it's not about laziness or catering to the critical mass of gamers. It's because ffa is a grief mechanic.

No I said it was name calling, not insulting...did I write insulting, let me check

..

Nope I said name calling. Did you have a chance to look up the word rebuttal yet?

If you have a good party in PoE it's far better from being instanced looting in D3, I'll say that.

Think of it like this:
You're teaming up with some trusted mates, and a rare bow drops. Your friend picks it up. "Is that bow any good?" He links it. "Dude, do you mind if I get that? that's a big upgrade from what I have." "Sure." He gives you the bow and you do him a solid later on. That's how the game is meant to be played.

But the public games are devoid of trust and kinship and cordial rules most of the time and it can be a terrible experience, for sure. What's the solution? Put up with it when you need to, find the gentlemen in those parties and add them to your friends list. Eventually you'll have dozens of decent, trustworthy people to choose from when you need help with a quest or want to party up and grind maps. And when you have maps, suddenly everyone is your trustworthy best friend.

There is no loot tension in what you just described, meaning if you do as described, you are not doing what the dev's want. So no, if you pick up a bow and your best friend who you deem like a brother asks for that item tell him to trade for an exalted orb. Then when he drops his exalted orb pick it up and give him a scroll of wisdom so wisdom can enlighten him.
JEEZ WE ARE EXILES. WHY THE FUCK DID HE DROP THAT EXALTED? Did he think that being friends for 20 years will stop us, EXILES , from griefing him? What was he thinking

IF YOU ARE RANGED, AND THE BOSS drops a RARe/unique, you have just as any chance as any other member sitting right next to the boss. It will range/scale up to your location.

Also, if it's a huge boss and you know it's going to drop good loot why the hell are you going to be miles away from it? scared to die?

Sounds like you're a big baby.

Edit: Not to be rude, but this is the shit GGG prob has to deal with every day...

Ofcourse, Its so much adding to the atmosphere having everyone give a grouphug to the boss that 5 seconds ago tried to murder you. OH MAN, ITS ALL ABOUT THE ATMOSPHERE IN THIS GAME :D

Keep these posts coming. They are fucking hillarious

He's mad cause I didn't give him hero cookies like the other person. ;)

I like the current system, and I agree that it fits the game very well. At the same time, I do think it needs some tweaking. Maybe longer timers on certain item types, or even larger names to click on to make looting easier for the correct person. The most annoying part of the current system is when you're standing there TRYING to get you loot, but you just can't for whatever reason, and some vulture get's it instead.

Another idea is to completely hide items with a timer from other players until the timer is up. It is very frustrating to watch players vulture over your loot every single fucking time, trying to snag it before you can. It would also fit with your idea of keeping the game moving.
The silent majority.
