how is the leveling in PoE? dies it take pretty long as you get higher levels? and there isnt stuff like trist runs and such is there? that ruined d2 imo
The devs have stated that they want to avoid "boss runs" in this game, so I wouldn't expect that they'll make it easy to get big payoffs from act bosses time after time.
As for leveling, it's supposed to take a LONG time to max out at 100, but we've seen chars in the high 60s+. Of course, this is based on only two acts and three difficulty settings, PLUS the Maelstrom of Chaos (a nifty idea which I dun think will be part of the actual game, so much as a self-regulating "endgame" for the Beta). Since the MoC (apparently) matches itself to your level, it provides at least decent xp for higher-level chars.
But with four or five full acts, in the three difficulty settings, I expect there's gonna be a lot more room for long-term gameplay, on final release. =^[.]^=

better than d2?
realistically speaking that isnt much of a feat. i mean... d2 is how fucking old exactly? lol
the changing fact here is ofcourse... that nobody actually managed to surpass d2.
still it should be better than d3 not d2.

I kinda get the impression that the thread title is a typo, and was meant to refer to Diablo 3. Of course, just how many such comparison threads exist on this forum?
Watching the D3 Beta play, I have to say, I enjoy watching PoE play better, and I think it really has to do with the closer resemblance to Diablo 2. =^[.]^=

Ladies and gentlemen, we are pleased to announce today the battle to the death

fight, kick, punch, more punch, the champion barely able to stand, hit, kick, defeated our champion in just one round, even in modern times, no one can resist the game of free to play with a big secret up his sleeve
Ha, you ask what the secret, but our secret will remain hidden until December 1, 2013, only on the threshold of universal horror I could open it, wait and venerate the mighty PoE
You should write short stories, really short ones!

As Im sure this topic has been done before (probably several times) it does have some things I think some people dont bring into the discussion in comparing the two games and the possibilities of each.
Ill just do my observations on comparisons in list style...
- Cost
PoE is free with micro transactions on now stat altering items (see cosmetic pets, outfits etc).
D3 will be $60 and then they are going to try to nickel and dime people with ah sale commissions and also microtransations.
Winner to ME: PoE. I know alot of people dont mind the AH thing D3 is doing but for me it just stinks of greed on Blizzards part. Plus I have 2 other gamers in my house and 3 copies of D3 vs. 3 copies of PoE....well yeah.
- Innovation
PoE has some really innovative mechanics and ideas going on. The whole skill gems thing is pretty neat. Its fascinating that you could possibly find a skill that nobody else you know has and be unique with a spell or something. I like the depth of options on the passive skills as well. Also while not finalized the barter system setup instead of gold stacking is pretty unique as well.
D3 has some neat things going on like the new way they are moving the story along to keep the action moving. Also they recently changed how skill will work as you will unlock them at levels but only be able to equip so many at one time (ala Guildwars so not really innovative).
Winner to ME: PoE really is trying to do some things different. This bodes well for down the line as I think they will be more willing to think outside the box and add even more new features where as Blizzard will really just add more content.
- Graphics and Polish
Ill keep this quick. D3 will probably win this overal lfrom most of what I have seen. Ive only seen videos of both games. Have not played either or gotten on beta for either. But know the amount of resources Blizzard has you know they will have some pretty unique things going on and it will look really good.
- Value
For me this is a big one. I played Diablo 1 like crazy. I had to have played 200 hours on it I bet. I waited for D2 like a rabid dog. Once I got it I liked it but after going through it like twice....I basically had enough. The hacks got out of control etc etc. I prolly only logged 20-30 hours on it which I guess is still good.
When I look at these games I see both have amazing potential to really give you a lot of gaming for your dollar but for some reason I just think I will end up putting more hours into PoE. Just something about the dev interviews I have heard with Chris makes me think they will keep the game more interesting on a quicker turn-around then Blizzard will.
Yeah I will prolly end up getting both (unless I get on PoE beta and just get so hooked I dont see a reason to spend $60 on D3). But like someone else said....I see PoE being the more interesting game to play once you get past the "New game shinny" syndrome.
To each his pown, but seriously take the blinders off if you think poe is more polished you need to see eye doctor's.

There is no real point in comparing PoE and D3. They are both great games with their own selling points. If you like PoE more great, if you like d2/3 more, cool. Like someone already said "to each their own".

The thing about PoE is that it has the special look and feel of Diablo. I can remember when I played demo of first Diablo (when I was in highschool) and it was so fascinating. After watching some vids, as I don't have a beta key, I expect the same thing from PoE. It looks great. Diablo 2 and as far as I can see the third one are so sweet and colourful. I do prefer badass look of PoE. And ofc I like the price. :)

I agree with what you said, they made D3 look to bright and shinny, and even sort of moved away from their genre in D2, this on the other hand in my opinion is the real diablo 3 .
