Introduce a new set of account-bound deterministic crafting orbs. That's right, crafting rather than gambling/currency orbs. These orbs would drop as rewards for vanquishing the fiercest opponents in the game. Each orb would have a small chance to drop from Rogue Exiles, Act and Map bosses, and would bind to your account as soon as you picked them up. With no trading, there's no RMT, clean and simple. Once a crafting orb is used on an item, it too would become account-bound. Here's what the orbs would do:
Intrinsic Orb: maxes the implicit stat in an item.
Extrinsic Orb: maxes the next unmaxed explicit stat in an item.
Embossing Orb: punches an additional socket in an item.
Embracing Orb: links the next two sockets in an item.
Purifying Orb: turns the next socket white in an item.
These crafting orbs would enable players to perfect endgame items exclusively for their own use. They would not work on Unique or mirrored items.
And destroy the entire reason for the game!
These items don't exist, because with these orbs, maxing gear would be a trivial exercise, everyone would be running around with perfect gear in a few months...game dies.

Voted for titties.
On the serious note. Make game offline. No more RMT. Of course, that is not going to happen. Account bound is not going to happen. Economy will still run rampant.....and so is RMT.
At the end of the day, the only option you have is........tough luck and live with the fact that RMT will happen.
Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.

Thanks for quoting my post to the top of a new thread page for others to see.
As for your ominous prediction, I guess that explains why everyone's running around with Mirrored BiS Rares and lavishing dozens of Exalts on all their Eternalized drops. But since the game has already dropped dead of boredom from all that perfectly RMT'ed gear, I don't really see much harm in sharing the decadence with the few remaining players who are willing to take on the scariest monsters.

Didn't read the whole thread so don't know if something like this already was proposed:
"
GGG introduces tradeable 'Point Tokens', purchaseable by $$, that can be redeemed ingame to any predetermined point value (say 100 points). The tokens can be traded between players as any item already in the game.
- Players with more $$ than time to grind/trade ingame gets a shot at acquiring items otherwise unattainable to them.
- Players with little $$ and a lot of time to grind ingame wealth gets a chance to purchase stuff in the cash shop
- GGG gets more $$ from points sold, and everybody is happy.

Wow, such a outrageous exaggeration. 95% of the players would never even notice these doomsday problems you are citing. Not even 1% of the players are runing around in mirrored bis eq, your suggestion would completely break the game and is among the worst ideas I have seen.

Yep. The point of gambling is to waste vast amounts of wealth in a RNG-infused attempt for BiS gear. The point of crafting is to use small amounts of wealth in a RNG-free, or at least RNG-reduced, attempt for subsistence gear — that is, nothing close to BiS. These are not concepts which should be combined, ever. For evidence of this fact, consider the Eternal Orb.
Vendor recipes are what crafting should be in Path of Exile. It's a shame there's so little to go on, because most vendor recipes allow you to craft... gambling materials. We need more vendor recipes for gear, with a mind to enable usable, but not BiS, output.

Oh, but I digress.
My solution for botting and RMT is simple: destroy the game.
Where there is disagreement within the community, escalate it. Sow discord between players with separatist movements and derisive labels. Challenge the authority of moderation by affirming your "rights" to certain forms of behavior. Do not discuss; riot. The increasing toxicity will drive away players both new and old.
Browbeat GGG into enacting foolish, short-sighted mechanics changes which destroy the game's longevity. Flood the market with easy-to-acquire items, inflating supply to the point where everything is worthless and nothing feels valuable; thus, no loot feels special anymore. Blur the line between good play and bad play by ensuring that even bad players survive. Further reduce the Standard death penalty.
And as you watch everyone leave, and the market for in-game items eventually dwindles to zero, then you will know that RMT and botting have finally been defeated, once and for all, and you can stand victorious over the scorched earth your actions have created.

Scorched Earth policy IS an extremely effective policy when combating an enemy force. There is no denying this. Hell, i might actually enjoy the game and come back if that were to happen. I would finally be able to craft and loot my own GG items. That would be some pure unadulterated fun thats for sure.
As for the effects it would have on longevity, I personally dont give a rats ass if all the traders leave because their source of income generation was gutted and made obsolete by having actually good drop rates and crafting odds, I would still be farming up orbs and good loot, always thinking of new builds to try and constantly needing more stash tabs and Emerald and Crimson weapon effects.
