Is POE doing enough to counter the D3 ROS hype?
POE is not better then D3 right now.
Didnt played D3 1 year and i have left poe few months ago. Now the both games have the chance to show who is better because both have an expansion. If poe stay with this drops rate and shit crafting and other boring things many will go back to D3 or stick to one random game till a new arpg come out http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/076/7/0/trafalgar_law___room__by_niklaswirths-d5ycuxx.jpg

By the way I wonder one thing, what is the rough playerbase number PoE has nowadays? I dont think it is massive (40k?), and the playerbase that is here is already a part of a niche group. I dont think there is risk of losing a portion of a niche group.
What I anticipate is people will try out RoS, and I believe certain portion of playerbase will love loot2.0 change and remember how it feels to play a fluid game with no desynch, but still be unsatisfied with D3 core mechanics. Then their desire to see a similar loot system and fluid gameplay with PoE core mechanics will be much more overwhelming. And forums will flood with "fix desynch" "SFL" threads more than ever. Of course after major flamewars, nothing will change and a portion of playerbase will leave PoE unsatisfied, not for RoS but for occasional RoS and Dark Souls 2 and other titles. Still that probably wont be too much, maybe %30 of population or so. Then Grim Dawn will come and swipe the ARPG field I guess. [/fortunetelling] |

I want ROS to be good, but I can't shake the feeling that blizzard heard the complaints, but didn't understand the spirit of them.
Exmaple: People complained the itemization was boring(it was), so they decide to add "interesting" uniques- the thing is at least from the ones they revealed there was nothing really game changing or build defining. Oh there were shiny proc and reverse procs that created unique spell effects- but they looks to be balanced in line with any other affix, an interchangeable general boost to combat that will ultimately blend into everything else that is happening. They are "different" but ultimately don't change any core gameplay- just like procs/reverse procs in MMO itemization. What makes itemization interesting in an ARPG is when it CREATES new build niches via mechanics that are either gamechanging or strongly reward an otherwise odd allocation of resources. This is one regard I feel the PoE devs are spot on- many of the uniques in this game really do create the framework for new, sometimes wacky, builds. Well I'm not going to descend to doomsaying yet- As I said I want to believe in ROS...but I've been burned before, and honestly I think the current blizzard is out of touch with everything outside the casual gaming demographic. I just can't shake the feeling that they heard the complaints but don't understand the reasons behind them well enough to really fix the core problems. I'd love to be proven wrong though =) Talisman softcore IGN:disappointment

RoS has no longevity, so people might leave for a while and play it but they will most likely return once they get bored of it.
What concerns me is that someone like kripp got completely burned out on ARPGS by playing RoS beta, that could be bad. Nothing to see here.

" What concerns me, about RoS, is Athene posting an interview with Blizzard guys when RoS was being announced and looking so fucking happy. Next video, after he played it, he looked quite disappointed. I dont know, I'm certainly interested enough to see what it brings and what are the impressions after it hits the market and then will figure out if it's right for me or not. It's pretty clear that there is a market for ARPGs (look at D3 sales), and it's ripe for the taking. AH3 vanilla and trade simulators like PoE will both likely be forgotten as soon as someone figures it out and makes a great ARPG. Whenever that may be. In the meantime, we have PoE and RoS :) 177 Last edited by toyotatundra#0800 on Feb 19, 2014, 2:50:02 AM

" You can't even give legit feedback on drops etc. anymore. Either all you are talking about is hearsay or you lie about not playing anymore. “Demons run when a good man goes to war"

It's doing enough, by being good. RoS isn't even on my radar, and i'm all about ARPGs. Highly unlikely i'll be paying real monies for RoS (which would have been unimaginable to me 2 years ago).
