Is POE doing enough to counter the D3 ROS hype?

It's impossible to balance the game around solo play without making it substantially easier by increasing drop rates and reducing RNG. Even if you do it in a seperate league, people would only play that league because people love to take the path of least resistance. Why would anyone try to make and maintain a group and educate himself about the market when he could achieve the same results with simply solo farming the game? And why would the later be more hardcore than the former (question to TheAnuhart)?

Want to hear something crazy?

Spoiler
Brevik said multiple times that he never once "balanced" D2.

Want to know why?

Spoiler
Because he wanted everyone to feel completely over powered no matter which class or gear they picked up.

Crazy, hey?

And Alhoon: POE vs ROS right now is group play + piss poor drop/craft ratios + trade vs solo play + awesome loot/craft ratios. That's the core difference right now between the games. That is the heart of both games. So of course it's being talked about here.

Ok, now it sounds like I want to try D3 and ROS, but I'm not paying full price for it.

I like my PoE. I left d3 from the start and came here and this is the type of monster killing game I want to play. The other game I will play will be ESO with the wife. And as always now and then some SC2 and Civ 5.

Because the ability to *buy power* is the path of least resistance, compared to building around what you find, and getting excited for every new build enabler you find.

Right now you need a specific item? "WTB XXX Ychaos" -> BAM you get it.. awww man that is SOO hardcore!

Looks like you missed the point. In a nutshell, the SFL guys want to achieve everything farming + grouping + trading gets them by solo farming. That would substantially simplify the game. Now tell me again how hardcore that is.

GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

GGG has a different approach to their game. At least you admitted that you simply want a much easier game. Now you also see the reason why a SFL probably won't happen.

About as hardcore as:

1) Not actually losing your character when you die in "hardcore" leagues.

2) Being able to set up a macro easy enough to 1-button push leave the game to avoid a death - or even escape + log out.
Spoiler
That's HARD FUCKING CORE bro.

3) farming 24-7 in a group of like-minded nolifers who build specific group characters so that 1 person runs auras, 1 person is the "last hitter", and others specialize in ranged/safe damage builds... all working in tandem to maximize group profits while in ventrilo to ensure 100% safety so no one is ever in any real risk.

I hate to break the news to you Xav: games not even remotely hardcore. It's time consuming. That's it. Period. Time consuming =/= Hardcore.

Talk to me when you played Ultima Online back in the day when there was no Trammel. Then broach the subject again of hardcore.

There is no logical reason period of having a SFL or any other permanent league with relaxed, yet reasonable ratios for drops and crafting. Not one reason. And the fact that one of the only "logical" responses has been "because everyone would play those leagues" - Uhhhh... ok so then tell me that the ratios aren't broken right now. Go on. Tell me. So I can spew coffee in your face and I laugh while drinking.

It's so sad to me that people actually think this game is hardcore.

Honestly, this forum has most of the ROS hype. More people are looking forward to ROS here than on Blizzard's forums.

'This game is not hardcore at all, so let's make it a lot more easier!'. Not sure if this is funny or sad.
