Hi
1.D3 ROS hype?WHERE?!?!
2. SFL 2cents: Darthski44 I agree with your sentiments concerning the implementation of such a league but I was advocating for this in the end of CB and throughout OB to no avail, I too realized quite early the lack of balance: that trade isn't fun and crafting is gambling and the orb drops not reliable enough to even attempt GGG version of ''crafting''; this has changed somewhat since then, but after bumping and discussing this for a long time concluded with others that a SFL is merely a diversion from fixing the real issues, its like waiting in a long line and budging ahead for your piece first. Still I firmly think that temp leagues are a great way of sorting certain issues better, hence will always be more in advocation for a temporary 4 month SFL that after its conclusion and integration to the whole of standard results in new and better recipes that would involve using rare items and orbs to create specialized orbs(orbs that would roll certain mods) allowing actual crafting. I feel that each temp league can allow GGG to focus on core issues, and a definite core issue is drops/crafting, it hides in plain sight. Fixing this woudl go along way, so there is a better balance between solo and group players because for now it seems GGG balances drops off of group play rather then solo players. I been playing solo since CB and have noted huge changes in drops and I am very curious to see what they will do next. Qarl suggested back in the SFL thread the idea of custom paid leagues.

What I don't understand is how they can watch grouping streams, and even Neon playing, with absolute mapping faceroll. Half the time players are not even paying attention. The game has sooo much promise. It seems as though pride and ego are getting in the way. Again just my opinion, but perhaps GGG's head has swollen up slightly.
Well, none of it really makes much sense, you kinda have to look at it and certain things appear.
What I can glean from it..
They want to target a certain audience, they want that audience to feel like they are hardcore gamers. The audience they target want more than anything to be OP ASAP.
If they were to allow (yes, allow, there are purposely designed gates to disallow) solo self found end game progression, this would take the light off of the target audience, the pretentious, the fast track, the instant gratification, the group faceroll, the players who play games like themselves. These wouldn't look so hardcore now, would they?
The model GGG have, lets casual players feel hardcore while disallowing real hardcore gameplay from succeeding.
I mean, Joeshopper can feel all hardcore and superior when there are less successful players. It matters not that the less successful players are only such because they don't take the longevity destroying, challenge destroying, enjoyment removing short cuts.
If GGG were to balance the game so solo self found was not craft, content, challenge and progression gated, then Joeshopper would look exactly how he is, not top of the heap, not the hardcore gamer that he is portrayed as, but a path of least resistance instant gratification gamer.
Look at the many responses to people giving feedback on how self found and/or solo progression is ridiculously inferior to group/trade. You inevitably get a ton of posts by people who never have had a char in the rankings of any league, who's post history is a mass of flipping, who get carried, rushed and partied through content. Who are the epitome of an instant gratification casual gamer; quick to throw insults to the feedback OP, insults which would better suit them, really.
This is by design.
Pretend hardcore game, GGG want to preserve the hardcore feeling, they need to stem the true hardcore gamers' progress to preserve the pretence and keep the feeling among the masses.
Casually casual.

TL;DR: GGG should balance the game around solo play. And solo play is real hardcore while everything else isn't.
Cool story bro.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

Should there not be options for players? Why should grouping or trading be far far far superior gameplay? (Like leaps and bounds superior.)
Oh right - because having options fracture the playerbase.

No, they should retune the game so there is no trade gating.
Would the then viable solo self found play be seen as more hardcore than how one has to play now, to progress?
Hell yes.
Point!!
Casually casual.

white trash is white trash in every such game especially if overfarm is always an option.
awareness is trivially increased by increasing base damage but it is kinda lame...

It's impossible to balance the game around solo play without making it substantially easier by increasing drop rates and reducing RNG. Even if you do it in a seperate league, people would only play that league because people love to take the path of least resistance. Why would anyone try to make and maintain a group and educate himself about the market when he could achieve the same results with simply solo farming the game? And why would the later be more hardcore than the former (question to TheAnuhart)?

Because the ability to *buy power* is the path of least resistance, compared to building around what you find, and getting excited for every new build enabler you find.
Right now you need a specific item? "WTB XXX Ychaos" -> BAM you get it.. awww man that is SOO hardcore!

Yet another thread ruined by obnoxious SFL whiners. You're worse than PvP kids, well maybe not but holy hell you're trying.
Not that there was much to ruin to begin with but still.
