Is POE doing enough to counter the D3 ROS hype?

Yeah, pretty much that. The core game is just unappealing as hell-- as I have said before, there is no reason to ever roll two witch doctors on your account.

But, a guildie put it in an interesting way; D3 should not be seen as an ARPG, but as a simple linear hack n slash. In that light, it's a good game.

Tbh i don't quite see the problem in just implementing SF into the normal leagues. Just give all players who have beaten Normal Difficulty the chance to check "Self Found" in any league, and they can't trade anymore, ever, and all items they drop get destroyed just like in town. In turn, they have higher drop rates and drops more fitting their character. Say, you're a witch, you're a LOT more likely to drop anything that is blue/blue-red/blue-green than the other colours, excluding gems but including uniques.

Fixed.

This.

Sadly will never ever happen as dev team is staunchly and aggressively against it for no valid reason I've read.

We will see.
In the meantime I will play sf during the new HC league :-)

I'm still in complete denial they won't implement a SFL. I can't believe they would arbitrarily ignore an entire segment of PoE's population.

Hype is overrated anyway. I remember all the hype for Everquest 2. Star Wars Galaxy.

Personally, I will stick with PoE. Got D3 for free from playing WoW, never really got into it.
Same as my beef with Supreme Commander 2, they make a completely different game, and slapped on
an old name, and called it sequel.

Though if Blizzard ever decides to make a sequel to Diablo 2, I'd jump at the chance to play it
I played 3D and it was basicly the reason why I switched to PoE. D3 just did to much wrong.
However, they put alot of effort into RoS to fix the problems that D3 always had. Blizzard will remove the Auction house, switch D3 basicly to selffound with very limited trading options (most stuff is account bound), they overhauled the items and the game will finaly get real build enabling Legendaries (and refilling Unique-flasks, heyyy ;) ) and they finaly implemented a real crafting system, not a RNG lottery crafting unlike PoE.

I have not pre-ordered RoS yet, I wait for release and for reviews to be onto the save side. But so far it looks as if RoE will be worth to play and I could need a break from PoE, it was getting just to frustrating over the time, to much desync, to much RNG, to bad performance and overall just not rewarding enough.

I pre-ordered ROS already. From what I've seen from things:

1) Items will drop like candy.

2) account bound drops means no more stupid trading and therefore no more punishment soaked in drop/craft ratios because (I'm paraphrasing here): I'm supposed to take it in the pooper for some reason on MY drops and MY crafts because "dude you need to engage others" - instead of balancing everyone's drops based NOT on trading but (GASP) killing some f'kin mobs.

3) I'm glad that at least one company can admit they made mistakes and even though it goes 100% counter to their initial premise: they have the ca-hones to admit a mistake and attempt to correct it. (real life auction house - admitting to balancing all of their drops based on what is currently on the auction house)

4) I think that they will release a 2nd Xpac to D3 and continue to expand on the game, and I totally support that. (I'd love to see charms and runewords - in any game again actually *nudge nudge* POE)
Extremely hyped games are something i learned to avoid. I'll never get a game before at least one month from the official launch date. And yes, D3 has some influence on this decision

If things are good enough for me after RoS is out for about a month, ill take a look at it.

But i dont plan on quitting POE. D3 problems seems to be much more at the design of the game than anything else. Better loot wont simply bring back many of the players that left for good.

Well then you better refrain from playing it.

-wink wink nudge nudge-
does poe really need to do anything?

At this point d3 has departed to much from the established trends of an online arpg that it might as well be its own genre.

It caters to a different crowd now.
