The most overused strawman on these forums: "RNG is RNG"

i think a lot of discontent stems from the comparison between a 6-men dedicated team vs a solo experience.

I also think alot of dismay comes from comparing their own "lacking in-game experience" to rmt streamers runing 200+ ex gearsets
I think RNG is RNG is the most overused tautology.

Ive rather given up on hoping people will enjoy this kind of random. They want max awesome in a few weeks or months at most. What happened to the good ol days of moria and angband where it took literal years before you had AMAZING gear.

This endless cycle of jackassery is endless. All I can do is document it.

What happened is the gaming industry and the gamers themselves changed. The no-lifers from 10-15 years ago don't have that much time to play anymore, and the gamers of today are used to achieve something every 5 minutes (see CoD as an example of a game which rewards you for pretty much EVERYTHING you do). GGG could easily cater to today's gamers by implementing something stupid like daily/weekly quests from WoW and giving out currency/item tokens for them. That would eliminate RNG for those players and give them a guaranteed reward to work for, while the gamers who are stuck in the past and actually want to invest a lot of time can still play PoE as they do now. If implemented correctly, GGG wouldn't hurt their game and at the same time increase their revenue. Win-win imo.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

That idea would destroy the economy. As for the old school "no-lifers", as you put it, I dont think you understand the draw to this kind of game. It has nothing to do with the ultimate 24/7 grind. It has to do with the long term satisfaction of seeing your char grow. Instant gratification is why games are seldom more than a few hours long anymore.

Saying "RNG is RNG" might be an excuse, if you don't like the phrase, or laziness maybe, but I don't think it is a strawman.

This thread of yours fascinates me tramshed. It really does.

Firstly, where does this unbreakable confidence come from that you believe the game will continue on indefinitely.

Secondly, If it doesn't. If at some point, quicker than you personally expect, the rails come off, for any single or multiple reasons, wouldn't your thread then be, not a document of hilarity but, rather, a document IT teachers will use in classes in 5 to 10 years time to warn children of the perils of over-arrogance?

You know, like we still still do with Mary Antoinette and her cake eating faux pas.

Or do you know something no-one else does? Is this game, essentially, supported by a few large money backers who don't care if there's 1,000 people playing or 50,000?

I know this will sound like I'm 'coming from a stance', but I'm not. It's just what I think when I read that thread. In that, I don't think I could ever have the 'balls(?)' to put myself in such a 'vulnerable' position as to make a thread like that.

But then, I guess, no-one will ever actually know who 'tramshed' was, so is it the anonymity which allows you to put yourself in such a position?

It will be quite a while before the servers shut down. To put it in perspective, Ultima Online is still running online servers.

That game started up around 97ish. So, I think PoE will be fine.
