Source? Pretty sure most of it comes from heroes and boosters, which are actually important since they affect the gameplay. Not many people actually buy skins.

Literally nobody in the game buys boosters.

In my ranked matches, there is literally a minimum of 5 skins in every single game i play.

Yeah I've played LoL for about 2 years now and I usually see 4 or so skins a match. I've spent a fair amount of money on skins.
Not sure if this has been mentioned but... There's the LoL model which is selling heroes and power, then there is the DotA2 model which is selling hats, hats and more hats. And people love hats.

you can blame TF2 for that
As others have said, League is free to play and is the biggest online game right now. And to correct others, there isn't really any p2w elements in there. The closest thing to p2w are boosts to the rate at which you get ingame currency, the main significant gameplay advantage of which is filling runepages. However, there's only a set number of runes you use each match, so someone dumping loads of money on IP boosts might be able to fill out runepages faster, but within a single match it doesn't really matter since each person in only taking one page.

Answer is pretty simple. Refer to League of Legends business model. GGG is planing the same.

I don't know how many people had the opportunity to play League of Legends Beta and were there on release but the starting graphics and skins on League of Legends sucked.... horribly.

It wasn't until season 1 and even season 2 that the skins got better and the graphics were redone. most people for some reason think league of legends came out of nowhere with what they currently have and that is just not true.

Again ill say all PoE needs is time, not to mention i approve of GGG testing their business model as a BETA rather then a full release and having to declare bankruptcy if worse came to worse.

Ive been playing the game for a couple days and already felt compelled to buy stuff just to support the game.

After watching what happened to D3 I am only too happy to support something I wish i had of been involved in through closed beta.

I think the op is underestimating the devs and the player base alike.

Well I can safely say I do NOT fall within that category.

Every F2P game I've ever played-even if there were Pay-to-Win aspects-if I enjoyed the game, I bought at least a few items from the shop. Even if I go on to only play the game for another few weeks.

I definitely foresee myself supporting GGG and Path of Exile with many purchases :3

In fact, if it could generate some more profit, get some real life merch up in here! XD I'd at least buy a shirt with the PoE logo on it for sure :3

Hi everyone. I want to say my opinion, so sorry for my poor English.

You forget a elemental thing. Is the game good enough? Yes it is. Can a person play for many hours with his friends? Yes they can.

When something is good and produce fun to the people for free, people feels the need to support his entertainment and communicate it to his friends.

So if i like this game, only for support it, i can send a message with a 5 euros and i ll dont think it has a high price. I can repeat this operation many times. Who cares of you pay 5 euros ocasinally for your own will?

Anyone. You are paying because is good for you . You pay if you want, but if you want, you pay more happy.

So for me its not important items, skills o whatever, the important thing here is that i like this game, and i want to follow playing it.

One more time, excuse me english. See you on the game¡
League of Legends is 100% free to play and 0% pay to win. Everything that gives you a boost in power and all heroes can be unlocked with influence points. Each game you play gives you about 50-150 IP and you get more for your first win of the day. A hero's cost ranges from 480-6300. The more expensive ones are just as strong as the cheapest ones. Paying will only allow you to unlock champs faster.

They get there money from selling skins. Visual packets.
