How can GGG support PoE in the long run ?

I've been wondering the same thing as the OP.

I love this game so far and I hope it does well. I plan on making a purchase soon just as a "thanks" to the team. However, I'm really not amazed by anything they have for sale. I'll just consider my next purchase more of a donation than actually buying anything.

I really don't want to see a real money auction house debacle like they did with D3. Please, for the love of all that is beautiful, don't go down that road.

Here's what I would actually pay for:

- Expansion packs
- New character classes
- Boob job for my ranger

Give us stuff that's really worth paying for, and you'll have a long term winner on your hands.
For an initial offering, I think the microtransaction shop is fine. Gender swaps and armor skins I believe have been confirmed for the future. I just hope these things come out fairly consistently.

Problem is, most Free-to-Play games either sell power, sell something that expires, or both. GGG does neither.

GGG will have the same. Chris already said they will be adding one time use items for all of the permenant ones so people can "preview". Not to mention over time they will develope alternate looks for all skills, armor pieces, full suits ect. I dont konw about the other supporters but I've used over half of my points already with tabs, 1 helm look and the cheap lavender weapon skin. I have $44 left to spend and that wont last to much longer.

You wont be paying for expansion packs or character classes. GGG has said several times anything that effects actual gameplay will be free.
I think because the community knows it is getting a quality free product and they want to see that continue... Many players will continually contribute $ to GGG. Plus, a fan base will build that will buy PoE merchandise to help support the company... and one day maybe a movie (ok I am dreaming here).

I will gladly contribute a few hundred $ to PoE annually to keep it going. Plus, I am sure if GGG realu needed to they could launch a "Stretch Target" (ala kickstarter) each year to raise more funds.

To the poster who is going off of current cosmetic items, i just can't help but say this....

THIS GAME HAS BEEN IN OPEN BETA FOR 4 FREAKIN DAYS AND THE SHOP HAS BEEN AROUND FOR 4 FREAKIN DAYS!

I hope that got through to you.

New cosmetic items will be added as time goes on, rotated, and created as well.

They already mentioned skins are in the making and are even considering setting up female/male options as well. Skill cosmetic effects are incredibly satisfying and i am sure tons will be on the way as time goes on and new skills are brought out.

Fyi F2P with no pay2win is extremely attractive to the exact fans this game is designed and advertised to cater to.

With no cash shop originally(bar two things) this game earned over 2.2 million in support from players.

I SERIOUSLY doubt the very fanbase who did that is going to just never buy anything on the cash shop....

This game's future is beyond fine. Considering the only competition is TL2 and D3, i think it safe to say this will be the game of choice compared to those two.

The game is fine.

Agreed.

The shop is lacking at the moment but it's their source of income. I'm certain that we will see consistent update and more impressive effect on the shop in the coming weeks, months, and beyond.

Wow, did not realize that. I registered this account a long time ago, but only got into the game a few days ago.

I know I'll be pitching in for that same reason soon. Having said that, I know first hand how difficult it is to make money off freemium business models. From what I've seen, freemium products work with an overwhelming majority of free-only users. It can be done, but GGG is taking the most difficult route possible.

Don't mean to sound doubtful. This is a good enough game with a great team behind it that I think it will survive somehow, some way. I don't know how exactly, but it's a damn good product.
I am going to be upgrading my stash in a few days, when my next check comes in.

As for what else they could sell? Why not sell the slots to some of the special competitive leagues?

I know my wife would be willing to throw down 50 bucks to play as a female shadow with a customizable appearance. Being able to buy new heads and bodies for the characters would be great.
Bullshit, you get the game for free.

The no pay to win line is very important. What you get in the store is either going to be all cosmetic, or findable in game. DDO does the same thing. The idea here is you place a value on your time based on the in game economy versus the out of game pay content. If you as a player know it will take 10 hours to find a certain item, then it may just be worth it to you to buy a loot boost from the store for a dollar or two. This way you still have to earn it, but you get to it faster.

The whole loot as economy system is what really makes GGG's f2p work. This way your incentive is purely economic, so you will justify purchases with real money by feeling you are getting (which in the technical sense you are not, but in the metaphysical sense you are) what you want.

In the future, I am sure we will see some content on the store (maps), which makes sense since they are loot.

In order to keep to the no pay to win, they will most likely have abysmally low drop rates of the best gear, and offer small time boosts in the store.

Tools are the biggest margin of profit in the f2p rpg (any kind) world.
