How can GGG support PoE in the long run ?

As others mentioned, the game has been open to public for several days only. Anyone who thinks GGG plans their business around the few items you see in the cash shop right now is making a huge mistake.

There will be new content being release in the future from time to time. That will keep sales going.
I will buy about 10-15 euro a month of coins and spend them in their shop as long as i play Path of Exile. Most players will to support them

New players will most probably (if they like the game) buy stash tabs...

As long as new players join (each year kids age a year and start gaming online..and word of mouth new players etc...

old players stop playing

what will be a big revenue is a full respec or buy 10 respec points etc :)

dunno if they will do this but still

or a name change
more pets
more emotes
more animations
more cool effects
more spells that look different
maybe xp potions (but this is a big NONO most of the cases)
new areas you can unlock
maybe buy a pack of maps..i dunno

guildstuff to buy
what i really would like is a gender change.. I want a male withc...or different looking woman for a witch..

or female rangers etc

To the poster who is going off of current cosmetic items, i just can't help but say this....

THIS GAME HAS BEEN IN OPEN BETA FOR 4 FREAKIN DAYS AND THE SHOP HAS BEEN AROUND FOR 4 FREAKIN DAYS!

I hope that got through to you.

New cosmetic items will be added as time goes on, rotated, and created as well.

They already mentioned skins are in the making and are even considering setting up female/male options as well. Skill cosmetic effects are incredibly satisfying and i am sure tons will be on the way as time goes on and new skills are brought out.

Fyi F2P with no pay2win is extremely attractive to the exact fans this game is designed and advertised to cater to.

With no cash shop originally(bar two things) this game earned over 2.2 million in support from players.

I SERIOUSLY doubt the very fanbase who did that is going to just never buy anything on the cash shop....

This game's future is beyond fine. Considering the only competition is TL2 and D3, i think it safe to say this will be the game of choice compared to those two.

The game is fine.

so very true.. now lets hope they wont make the game "easier" like that failure of a game D3

Answer is pretty simple. Refer to League of Legends business model. GGG is planing the same.

League of Legends sell boosts and heroes which give mechanical advantages. Those are counter to GGG's promise for no Pay2Win.

This is true, but most of their revenue comes from skins, which are cosmetic.
Source? Pretty sure most of it comes from heroes and boosters, which are actually important since they affect the gameplay. Not many people actually buy skins.

This. League of Legends is extremely, extremely successful (at least I am pretty sure they are lol!) The business model is proven. Its silly that you aren't aware of this.

Honestly though buying champions in LoL is almost mandatory unless you wanna get 1 new hero every 80 games or so which is just ridiculous.
i dont know its hardcore game i dont wanna to see GGG go for un plance item shop i dont wanna to see player that cant handle the heat run to cash shop
Something I'm not seeing anyone bring up here is the planned Custom Leagues, which is pretty unique. That is planned to be in the cash shop.

Literally nobody in the game buys boosters.

In my ranked matches, there is literally a minimum of 5 skins in every single game i play.
