Rift Between Player Types

Those who understand how to barter and haggle and those who don't.

Can you name me one game in which you've actually bartered?

Spoiler
Funny how so many people have absolutely no idea what "barter" means.

You cannot keep a player from "becoming" wealthy in PoE.

All it takes is 1 drop.

I get that 1 drop almost once every season.

Of course you can. You buy his item from him for what he perceives to be wealth and then flip it for more value. Increasing your own wealth and dropping him back in wealth.

It's what end-game is all about yo!

You are not FriedFeline, now are you? Nonetheless: in Wurm Online, you didn't use currency for your trades?

If you come across a player who wants to sell an Exalted Orb for a Transmutation Orb do you:

a) Inform them that an Exalted Orb is worth 1,000s of Transmutes.
b) Jump on the guy, virtually forcing a Transmute in his mouth before he can leave.
c) Inform him that an Exalt is only worth a Wisdom Scroll, but since you like him, you'll give him 2.

Where does the concept of 'stupid' come into play in this scenario?

Baring in mind both the long-term and short-term consequences of any decision.

Isn't the issue more about 'morality' - to which, in an RPG setting, wouldn't it be great if characters had either good, evil or neutral auras which changed upon decisions like this!

I see. Do they create an alternative currency though? For instance in the game Haven & Hearth, a type of "leveling item" called "curiositites" are used as currency despite not being coins of any sort.

failed? it achieved a high success considering its a very niche game, the fact that devs are still publishing content and the servers are running for over 7 years proves that

I'm guessing we have different perspectives on the context of successful. I've no doubt MySpace had a very (relatively) successful year last year...
