Rift Between Player Types
The other day I finally sold my non-legacy kaom's I got as a drop from mapping and for the very first time I have a substantial amount of currency in this game. I decided it was time to buy some upgrades for myself and my girlfriend's character since we share everything. Up until this point I had only ever tried to craft 6 linked chests and weapons and never even thought of buying one. I had already heard of the horror stories about trading with items like this and decided to do a little test. The first person I found with the 6 link chest I was looking for was loaded. His store had pretty much every single unique worth more than 30 exalts for trade and then some, like the chest I wanted. He was also selling is discharger set for like 140 ex. Obviously this person was extremely:
a)Lucky with drops b)RMT c)Traded a lot (Flipped currency/Items) On XYZ not a single 6 link version of the chest has a buyout set anywhere that I saw at the time. So I had decided to act like most of my trading experience didn't exist. I was trying to act like probably about 35% of the player base that is either new or just too scared of the lack of gold standard to trade in fear of being scammed. I found the price of the 5 linked version of the chest on XYZ which was actually pretty low (this is all on standard), so I left an offer for 4 exalts higher than the 5 linked 6 socket ones. If this game actually had a proper trading community, somebody as rich as I was dealing with should be asking if I was new or something if the offer was an obvious low ball. Instead, all I got was "gl" no explanation why or what a proper offer was. It wasn't until I messaged him back what I was doing he said something about what a c/o was and etc. So in my mind, the current state of trading with people in the game is simulating similarly to the upper, middle and lower class systems today in which very few people are actually in the upper class because of reasons b or c and those like me who start to get lucky with drops a left in a middle class because the higher you go the less information people are willing to tell you in order to progress because they don't want to share their class. tl;dr: Trading is too hard with so many low balls are ignored or laughed at to learn to trade for many people. +1 for self-found league yo. Spoiler
i think your probably going to find that the chest is so good it is going to sell no matter what (and for a GOOD price), and offering such a low amount is not really even worth the sellers time, as in your low-ball was SO low that there's no way you have the currency available to buy it and if you do your either rmt or Way to lucky. Offer what your willing to pay for an item, at least within a reasonable range. IGN: EviiLe

I would like to express my gratitude that people like you still exist.
This little act does not make the community any better, really, still I would like to believe that "we" are not lost yet. Few weeks ago, me and my friends had couple of lucky drops and for the first time since closed beta, we were able to peek into the "higher economy" world of PoE. It is dark, ruthless and scary. Not all, but majority of traders there have the mindset "Stop wasting my time and GTFO" any time you have a reasonable question for them. I can understand that they do a lot of deals and dont have time, but heck, writing down a set of minirules and then point everyone to them would make the world much better to all of us. Personally, I do not care for the PoE economy anymore, we just play with what we can drop most of the time. The trading is so significantly exhausting here... maybe the lack of any trading other than person to person is doing this. Everybody is then just wasting extra time needlessly (instead of sending an item by post, you have to wait for the person to come online, then wait for it to stop mapping, then wait for it to find your a1n instance, then wait for it to find the item / currency... absolute efficiency nightmare). GGG please do something with the trading soon TM. Cheers for your girlfriend, I hope you both enjoy your time in PoE. Dont let this get into you, the top tier traders just suck to be human, what can we do about it in the end. |

" They are just doing what GGG promotes themselves. So unless GGG takes another stance on trading and flipping/scamming overall, nothing will change. This is also related to the mapping system, since you need stupid amounts of wealth to run the higher maps and the whole top ladder revolves around this, the only logical solution is to scam the mid-tier and low-tier out of there wealth in an attempt to stay on-top of the ladder. This in itself promotes the trade system we have, since it is tied with the top-ladder and mapping. And those guys are usually so into the competition, they don't give a fuck about anything/anybody else unless it helps them secure there position. Also if they promote trading knowledge and experience, they will lose the edge over the top-ladder and top-market. So this will unlikely never happen :). I hope you and your girlfriend have a good time and manage to acquire some trading knowledge over time. Peace -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

I have come across many players, you need to learn the currency. If you don't know the currency I would have said "gl" as well. When I sell I do not have time for people that have no idea what they are buying. When I say, "offer," and they come to me with a low offer I, "go fish."
Now not to say that some players need some help I don't mind taking off .5 exalts or one. Depends on my mood and the item I am selling. I only buy item that I can flip or make a prophet also you need to figure out on your own which items will increase in value. It's like playing the stock market. I have shares... To sell sell or buy well thats on me. I can sell and buy whatever the heck I want, I refuse to let any group or for that matter player dictate how I act on my wealth. Its just like in real life, "don't tell me what I can and can not do with my money." "Another... Solwitch thread." AST

What is this thread even about?
You lowballed someone and they responded very nicely with a "gl"? Now you think there's an upper, middle, and lower class in this game? Well of course there is... It sounds like you were treated pretty darn well by the "top tier trader"... Sorry but self found league will be D3 RoS... |

" Yes, and that's about the only reason I'm giving that game a second chance. As a game PoE is a lot better but the forced trading ruins the experience and all new leagues will be dominated by RMT users. |

" I agree with you here but that is my complaint about this set up. I used to play runescape when I was younger. I got scammed, 3 times in my entire career playing. The first time was somebody abusing a bug the other two were because I didn't know what the prices were. The very last one set me back a couple months back in playing that I quit my membership and played other games for a while. With the way trading is set up in POE, nobody ever bothers to teach anybody prices. This is only the first time I tested somebody but the other times I just noticed that they do all these "no lowball or ignore" rules. Most videos or forum topics I look up on how to learn prices etc are either outdated or they summarize up to learn or get ripped off a ton until you learn the prices. With how RNG POE is that seems like a terrible learning model. I contemplated offering half of what I made from my koams. But then I could have easily been ripped off. The next chest of the same stats I want that I can find if they don't have a buyout I am going to ask how much if they don't only accept offers. I feel as though more than likely the person will ask for an offer anyway. When I sell stuff I actually look up a price when somebody asks. If it is taking me a while I ask for an offer just for them to fill time. If it is higher than what I find I tell them. I just am kind of lost as to why GGG makes this game better if you party up and group in most cases but when it comes to trading is designed to turn most people into pricks in order to be rich. Who wants to party with you then unless its other rich pricks? "It's all clearer now
