D3 vs Poe: Which has worse itemization?
" I would say itemization in PoE is far FAR better, but trying to find upgrades once your about level 60+, its pretty much the same. Basically you won't ever find a unique for your build that is utter crap for your build. I remember the D3 AH and numerous underpowered uniques for sale. Itemization in PoE is pretty much 100% better than D3. |

Itemization in PoE wins, because they have a passive tree.
You can tailor the tree to your items and vice versa. Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

I don't get why games don't drop a bunch of good items and just let us farm for the great gear. We all know the D3 loot problems, but my problem with PoE is the 2 tier roll. I can't even count the number of times I have gotten an item with good stats but terrible sockets/links or an item with links but mediocre stats. Crafting is nice to try and make items work, but I have always liked the idea of my first sentence and the first ARPG to meet that will be my winner.

What has the worst itemization...hmm, that's a tough one.
Both are pretty bad. Reaper of Souls will hopefully be a little better as far as play the game to find upgrades as opposed to trade for anything worth while. Path of exile is very trade-centric. Working as intended apparently, and the majority love it. I hate it ( which is why I pretty much completely quit playing). I can't stand 99% vender trash-save up currency and BUY your upgrades... I'd much rather upgrade by PLAYING the damn game. Ya..tough one. I quit playing d3 because of this crap, and grew bored of PoE for the same reasons. |

" POE: I never did find an upgrade once gear started to matter. What upgrades I did get came from trading... or more accurately, my son trading for me since I won't touch it. D3: I can't remember going 20 levels without a self-found upgrade... ever. Sure, most of the loot I find is utter garbage but the winners pop up regularly and crafting actually works. And, from my perspective. the AH is a bonus because it insulates me from the nastiness of trading. So from my experience D3 is currently better... or more accurately... the drop rates there suit my available play hours and play style better than POE does. I don't trade. I don't group. My comments reflect that.

" Try D3 on the PS3 if you want lots of uniques,it literally throws uniques at the player.I had so many uniques drop by end act 2 normal I was breaking them all down for crafting parts.D3 on the PS3 even gives the player uniques when you start a new character.lol I didn't play long as was way too much hand holding for my liking. hehehe |

I used to hate the itemization for D3, "OMG HAHAH I AM SORC I GET MOAR DAMAGE 2 HAND AXE AND MY MAGIC DAMAGE SO STRONG". Then I started trying to find something I need in this game, and realized D3's itemization isn't that bad. I won't ever play D3 again, and with close to 3000 hours under my belt in PoE, I most likely won't be playing this until some serious changes are made to late game progression.
Try investing 600 hours of your life into literally crafting 1 item, and in 50 Exalted Orbs it hasn't rolled the 1 prefix you need with 2 prefixes open. Try finding a self found upgrade for a specific build you're playing(okay I need a 2h physical damage mace to crush out some maps with...yeah fucking right). The itemization has POTENTIAL to be great, but so does crafting, drop rates, new char builds, and the vast pigeonholing skill tree. Potential wrapped inside 500 layers of bad RNG. This game is fun as hell until you realize that the whole thing is smoke and mirrors built around getting an ignorant human being(like myself) to grind fruitlessly for thousands of hours, while more intelligent human beings realize what's going on and leave the game or RMT. The 12 hour a day legit grinder(like I used to be) can't win in this game. RMT, botting, multiboxing, or constant rerolling to avoid the horrible end game are the only way to win satisfaction here. Here's the problem I believe ARPGs have now with loot. Too much emphasis is placed on loot that is an upgrade or more powerful by both players and developers, when games should be concentrating on providing more interesting loot. Interesting loot could be things you collect, low level items for subsequent characters, mid range items that make you want to try a new class or spec, items that start quests, items that can be upgraded, etc.... If interesting items drop often, people would not complain so much about not getting upgrades. Another small thing that makes loot more interesting and was only done at a low level in Titan Quest that I know was to have the enemies actually USE the items they would drop so that a skeleton using an awesome bow might be really dangerous and you could recognize that the enemy was using an advanced item

I found itemization to be much worse in Diablo 3. There it's just linear progression of stacking same stats on every piece of gear: Life, All Resistance, Primary stat, Crit, Crit Dmg and Attack Speed, weapon damage
With PoE, there's a lot more variety and choices. For example, if I pick up a belt with Strength, I can save a skill point that I would otherwise spend on a +30 Strength node. But I like how in Diablo every damage source, even spells, are linked to weapon damage. At first it seems silly to be a bow-wielding Wizard that uses lightning spells, but it offers a lot more balance in terms of damage between various specs, something that PoE really messed up. Here, spellcasters are just terrible. Unfortunately, PoE has a lot of wasted potential. Me and my friend were very excited about the crafting system. While levelling, we would often use Transmutaions, Augmenatations and Alterations to improve our gear. It was fun and exciting and we were looking forward to crafting some high level gear, eventually. But then we realized that crafting doesn't pay off and it's best to just buy the specific gear you need. But to do that, you need to use 3rd party sites. It makes Diablo's AH look appealing. |
