D3 vs Poe: Which has worse itemization?
With Loot 2.0 in D3 now I'd say D3. Also loving the fact that you can find a 90% BiS and make it a 100%BiS. Unlike PoE where you can find a 90% BiS and either gamble and lose 90% of the times. Crafting in PoE is good for mediocre gear you don't mind losing. The one's crafting on high end gear are the ones who have an absurd amount of orbs, which a normal mortal never will get to see.

I'm not familiar with D3's smart-drop.
Does it drop only loot that's tailored to your build? That's bad. Does it make sure that every once in a while you do find an actual upgrade? That's good. Doubtlessly POE has more build variety and probably more variety in gear stats, but at the cost of upgrades being hard to come by. Sure as a caster, particularly as a summoner, you can clear the entire game with a crap weapon because they rely more on gems than gear, but where is the fun in an aRPG where you loot 99% vendor trash/xyz fodder? The wand I used on my incinerator from ~70-90: bought for a few chaos. Upgrades never dropped, tried shopping for one on XYZ but people ask exorbitant prices for anything that's even marginally better so I gave up. More cast speed and some projectile speed would have been nice. The +2 to cold was nice to have but I could have gone without it. Would a few % more dps have had a noticeable impact on my mapping performance? Hardly. Could I have gotten to 100 using it? Certainly. But again, where is the fun in never upgrading your gear? Two small fixes that would go a long way to make loot feel more rewarding: -certain base items should be more likely to spawn with certain set of mods. Tornado wands with more attack mods, Omen wands with more spell mods or something like that. There'd still be plenty of randomness and overlap left to not make it feel boring and allow for niche builds. -higher lvl loot must have a higher chance to roll high tier mods, no fucking lowest tier mods on ilvl 80 gear. " my point about summoner wand was that sometimes you want very specific stats on items in poe. there are obviously exceptions, like when you go crit, maligaro gloves might be best in slot offensive gloves in softcore and such, but there are few of those and a lot of those uniques have been changed to legacy. D3, not sure if you played the vanilla, but the way scaling works is all damage-dealing skills scale off weapon damage multiplied by your main stat. so basically to deal more damage you stack main stat. to stay alive you stack vit. you get crit chance, attack speed and crit dmg where you can. fin. as such, its really easy to cater to give you upgrades or catered to your 'build' in the new d3 loot system: just give the class you play (wiz and wd main stat is int, dh and monk are dex, etc) main stat vit and some other mods, and youre good to go. tough to do that in poe, where even thing like life/energy shield cannot be guessed- maybe you want to go melee CI, who knows ? I like both of your suggestions btw. |

Didn't read through thread. Replying to OP:
Diablo 3 has the items, but no game depth to use them. PoE has no items, but an ocean's worth of depth. They are literally backwards. Diablo 3 should be harder to gear in, as there isn't much variety in the stats a player is looking for. PoE should have gear drop more often, as there are a plethora (dare I say limitless number?) of builds to create and bring to a sense of "completion." |

IMO:
Farming endgame bosses and getting items with lowest tier rolls all time. I mean wtf... I slayed the uber devil boss of wraeclast and am getting a siege axe with +1-2 phys dmg roll. THATS rewarding. I dont want to get max tier rolls from bosses all time, but pls... |

I played D3 beta, didn't like what I saw so never bought it. RMAH concept pissed me off to no end so I vowed never to give Blizzard any money again. The expansion makes me curious because they seem to attempt to fix much of what was wrong with the game, but I just need to look at a screenshot like this:
![]() and I know the game will still be fucking boring. They took the "DEEPS" craze from WoW and turned it into their mantra. Everything's based on DPS, no thought required. Shop closed until further notice. Check out my Dominus musical tribute instead:

Still now in D3 you can have a full party with a monk, a wizard, a barb and a witch doctor, 4 different classes, 4 different builds, 2 being melee and 2 being casters, yet all 4 using the same weapon. That alone shows how bad the itemization in D3 is.
