So all the 'whiners' on the forums are...
Well I guess the bottom line is that you seem reminiscent of d2 where you would get any piece of gear in the game within a few weeks. Seriously ask yourself, if poe was like that would you still be playing it?
This is not the first game I have played where there are tiers of items so rare that only a few exist on the server or maybe none at all so maybe thats why it does not bother me. Last edited by Splift#4377 on Jan 12, 2014, 1:17:17 AM

" Though I did play D2 for close to a decade as did a million other people when PC gaming wasn't near as big as it now, I do agree that those elite items should be rare. That being said, if a 900 dps weapon exists and it's the most elite weapon in existence that's okay, but why is it so very rare to find one with 400 dps? We aren't talking about gaining that 1% for bragging rights. We are talking the difference between a 3 link chest and a 6 link, but 1,000,000 times more rare. You see someone ask for small changes, and you think people are asking for elite items every time they log in, when in reality we are asking for late game progression and a sense of time invested vs reward. Even with 1 billion hours played I'll probably never find a 900 dps weapon, or an 800, or a 700, or a 600. I'll end up doing what all of the other 24/7 grinders do and keep flipping my way into Mirroring one. Either way, I don't know how me having my own 700 dps weapon with 3k hours played or me just having a 900 dps Mirrored effects you in any way. Last edited by nGio#1658 on Jan 12, 2014, 1:32:41 AM

"No, that is just the exaggerated way to put it. In reality its all relative. Lets say your 600 dps weapons were easier to find, then you would be on here complaining that a 700 dps is out of reach after X hours instead. "I did play d2 for a long time myself (maybe not as long since I happily moved on to median xl, the best arpg) I never played it for more than maybe a month or 2 at a time and I would assume nearly everyone is the same. You play it for a few weeks get some godly chars, get bored of it, come back in a year and you have to start fresh due to char wipe. I know I personally have played a higher concentration of poe in the time it has been out than I ever played of d2 (over the same period of time, not total). And yet I still do get bored of it after 1-2 months (i just come back sooner). Last edited by Splift#4377 on Jan 12, 2014, 1:45:02 AM

A 600 dps weapon is insane. FAR more than you need to clear content. Same goes for a 500 dps 2h.
Just because a 900 is max, does not mean a 500 is worthless. If you want perfect gear, standards got it. In spades. |

" Now you're making assumptions about someone you don't know. You must have experienced 1 too many "aw this is dumb I couldn't get my chest to 6L with 100 fusings", and decided to generalize everyone. If all I wanted was the best I wouldn't have spent a fortune crafting my own weapon. I literally could have bought 2 Mirrors in Nemesis for what I've dumped into
Spoiler
It shouldn't be cheaper to buy 2 Mirrors than to craft/find something inferior. Even when my weapon is finished, it might be inferior to the best, but I'LL BE HAPPY with it. I won't be happy with drop rates or crafting, because in 3k hours played the overwhelming majority of my total wealth has come from trading/flipping, and it's not even close. I have 3 K Hearts from the beginning of OB, and the most expensive item that I ever found then was worth 6 Exalted. You can have whatever opinion you'd like and make all of the assumptions that you want, but imo the most beneficial way to progress in an arpg is by actually playing it. Well I just noticed that you keep comparing everything to the best possible etc and yet a few months ago a 2 hander could not get anything even remotely close to 900 dps. I meant this is all relative, if you got the better item you would look at whats next etc, grass is always greener on the other side mentality.
And the crafting system is meant to work like that. On average it might be cheaper to just buy it, but you are also taking the gamble that you might get it cheaper or craft something even godlier. Last edited by Splift#4377 on Jan 12, 2014, 2:31:19 AM

" If someone said they would be happy to have a $10k a year raise, you would say "no you want Bill Gates money or you're not happy", and assume that you know them better than they know themselves. No one's opinion matters more than yours, and if anyone disagrees then you stereotype them and clump them into a category of your choosing. No matter what I say, you are too stubborn to see anything past what you want, and I'll just keep seeing the same "you want more" rhetoric over and over regardless. This is pointless and intelligent conversation can't be had here so I'm done. You're right, I'm wrong, and all I want is for everyone to have 10 links, and I'm selfish. Have a good night sir. | |
I'd like to point out that while you guys are arguing about crafting with eternals and spending the equivalent of two mirrors in currency, I've played for a year and have had a total of maybe 6 exalted orbs worth of currency. I don't mean at one time, I mean all I've had over the past year combined.
This very well illustrates that you have to rely on trading / flipping to get anywhere. Crafting for me has meant I will occasionally spend an alchemy orb on a white to try for an upgrade. |

Draw that conclusion if you will, but I am not generalizing here. I literally see someone with an insane amount of wealth saying they need more, its not enough i want more etc.
If crafting was made easier then the prices would just lower and it would be the exact same in the end, cheaper to buy the item rather than craft for 95% of the cases. That is a mechanical fact, not an opinion. Last edited by Splift#4377 on Jan 12, 2014, 2:48:07 AM

" Probably, but then the game would be more fun for those players that would like to use the orbs for gambling and are not interested in the economy / trading aspects. And those that care about the economy would be in the same state once the ratios stabilized again, so no harm there. |
