I see it happen all the time more and more. I had over 6 months break from this game and it has gotten 200% easier after I left. The reason? GGG has caved in for the casuals' demands about permanent loot, etc. nonsense that makes the game so much easier.
GGG seeing all these "active" threads (in reality it's 1 or 2 loudmouth demanders shouting to each other) thinks that these are somehow issues that "need" to be fixed. Well they aren't. The game was/is good when it's hard and the more casual demands go through, the more people who want to play PoE for the challenge are pushed away.
Why is GGG caving in to please the flimsy casuals who we all know will abandon this game the instant their instant-gratification meter is full? I hope the answer isn't that they are stupid, because I'm quite sure they aren't. Is it the money?
Discuss.
Lololol. Yes because Dominus, Library Boss, Caliga, Avian Birds, Frogs, Barrier-Nobles, etc, all made the game so much easier.
Sorry, but teh game you played 6 months ago is a walk in the park compared to now.
Didn't read the whole thread, but let me assure you as someone who has recently played with semi casuals that Act 3 Cruel's final boss is a huge wake up call for people. It's even worse in Merciless. Then they get to maps and the level 66 Orchard boss one shots their tanky character.
I wouldn't define myself as casual, but I am wondering how I will tick off all of the map bosses defeated for the challenge. I'd almost certainly need to be carried through the level 78 bosses (and a few others).
Stop on by and join a public game in the scepter of god for fun.

I'm casual and have been for a long time. Guess what, I also pay the bills and play nemesis league.
I also have two small kids and a career.
Poe has plenty to be challenging but you don't define what that is. Nor do you define what "casual" is and you do not explain what it is you think will make the game better or harder.
As an older gamer, I've been doing this a while (30 years) and I have noticed a distinct change in the way people interact and deal with games. Especially younger players.
1. They don't see games as entertainment. (Seems to me there is some sort of attitude that being good at a video game is like being some sort of star athlete. I assure you, it's not)
2. Many I've played with, younger guys, don't handle losing very well. I've seen people quit the game simply because they died too early in a race or lost their hardcore character.
3. Theorycrafters. All too often I'll be told that I have to do a build a certain way or it's shit. I dunno, if it's enjoyable to play, is it shit?
4. Hardcorelitist. Now I play hardcore, because I do enjoy the challenge and sense of loss when I lose a character to softcore. I get it. What I don't get is the attitude that if someone doesn't have 16 hours a day to play, they are a "baddie". No, I would argue they are just "employed".
So comes the fine line between satisfying these archetypes or everyone else. Me, I enjoy the game. I have at least 1000 hours playing which is saying a lot for me, that's roughly 1/8th of my time.
So my tips for making the game more enjoyable start with you, not the game. Try not building the super min-max builds but rather something interesting and difficult to level.
Try building something that does not do 24k dps or 8k life.
I'm 27, I also have a career but no kids, I make money but not too much. But enough to support myself, pay my bills and even buy some supporter packs from GGG. Your post implied that I'm some kind of 12 year old snotface, crying on the forums about stuff I don't understand. Well I assure you that's not the case, whether you believe it or not.
I don't have huge amounts of spare time to play, but when I do have that time, I want it to be challenging for myself without restricting myself. I'm an intelligent gamer and I want my games to be intelligent. PoE is and has been that, but like I stated in my mainpost, it seems that the trend continues to be towards the dumbed down, easier, casual path. That I do not like. I'm looking forward to play this game for years and if it's only getting easier, that's not happening.
What makes you "hardcore" players so high and mighty that you think this game should be balanced towards you in the first place? I would estimate that hardcore players make up a much smaller percentage of the fanbase than casuals, so why exactly do you "pro's" get preference? Get over yourselves, seriously.

Because anyone who knows anything about game design knows that once you balance it for the best players who have found the biggest secrets, builds and bugs, then for the average gamer the perception of depth of the game grows exponentially.

Idk... maybe because the devs wanted their game to be like that ?
No they didn't.
They said that, so people can claim they are playing a hardcore game, for hardcore gamers, by hardcore gamers.
While overlevelling content via choice zones while levelling, getting boss rushes, WP TPs, then being almost invulnerable in a 6 man party end game while wearing OP gear they simply bought.

Well if GGG want to really get hardcore, they could disable trading, disable parties, disable gambling/recipies and have complete stash and character loss on death.
But I'm guessing that may be too hardcore for most of the hardcore player base.
TheAnuhart expresses it so much better than myself.I'm just a fart in the wind at this stuff. lol
