I’m glad that they do not have a full re-spec available in game. The current setup encourages players to play multiple builds. That said…If they were to add a re-spec to the game they only way I could see is giving a onetime option when going from normal to cruel.

There are a lot of D3/WoW/[insert other game] players thinking that they will only level one character and play that character until the end of time. If that's what you want to do that's completely fine, but the devs fully expect players to play all sorts of different characters as they learn more and more about how the various systems work together.
You players that keep popping up talking about the leveling process like it's "work" that you should be allowed to shirk are not the target audience. Get it into your heads now that the character development process is very much an intended element of the gameplay. The devs want this game to be played for years, they don't want you to say "I leveled a Witch, now I have no reason to play through as a Witch again." Each time you play through the game you'll have decisions to make; sometimes you'll choose a passive based on a skill requirement, other times it will be for a certain piece of gear you found, and sometimes it will be because a node is part of a larger plan...or just because the node is close by and too good to pass up. Grow your characters, learn what works and what doesn't, and then get creative. Don't just cry for handouts because your first character wasn't a ladder-storming legend. |

For me a missing respec feature might be a deal breaker.
I like experimenting with builds. I love the idea of making a build work more than laboriously grinding loot. As mentioned before in this thread, as long as game mechanics are not 100% accurately described, a lack of respec includes the chance of completely screwing up a character without fault and without the possibility of a remedy. When levelling up ingame I don't want to be forced to tab out of the game into the forums to search for the min/maxing thread every time. Considering the potential build diversity and complexety of this game a game-induced reluctance to experiment would be a shame. I do agree though, that there shouldn't be limitless respecs per character. It should be a means to 'correct' wrong choices during the levelling process. |

Which is why we have orbs of regret and respec point quests.

I understand and love the fact that you need to plan out your points carefully. However, some build are literally horrible to level with.
Now I am conceding a few points: Obviously these builds are not the smartest for quick races. Yes if the intent of the developers is to have some builds be a challenge to level with and not change, then more power to them. We definitely should NOT be able to PAY for respecs, but even if we could it wouldn't be considered pay to win. Here is an easy and agreeable solution: Design a system forfull respecs. Be it once per character, difficulty, w/e you want. Then make this an option you can turn ON OR OFF in a custom league. GGG turn it on for whatever the default softcore league is, and disable it for races/hardcore league. This way, in the non-competitive softcore ladders you can respec based on the system; however, in the competitive leagues you cannot and must manage the orbs and points more carefully. Added benefit of this is that if people pay for a custom league or host a custom league or w/e; they can still choose to have this enabled. You can all agree with me as this is an amazing idea and appeals to everyone and every opinion. For the people who think that it shouldn't be allowed in the default or "softcore" league, I'm sorry but naturally there is no competition in this type of grouping so it doesn't really matter if full respecs are available or not. |

Umm..
There is competition in default. Not sure why you think otherwise. |

" Here is a perfect example of why this is inconvenient for the default league player. Jack is a 28 year old guy from Georgia and works for a computer company full-time. He has a level 87 Ranger. He builds a physical bow ranger with high evasion and ES because he likes CI and uses summon totems to help with harder maps. He's been farming for 3 months straight playing with every second of free time he has. WHATS THIS!?!?!? A high level rare bow with low physical dmg but retardedly high elemental damage drops. Best item he has ever seen. He wants to use it not trade it. He uses it but hes not doing as much damage as he thought. He goes to the forums. Turns out theres a way better build for this bow that he found but he spent upwards of 50-60 points in the opposite direction on the skill tree. He has all his respec points, and has a few orbs. No one is trading orbs because they are so valuable. There is no full respec. Should he have to farm for another 3 months to get back to the same level as his current ranger with his new bow? Seems like a raw deal for him. |

" Lol. You seem to be one of those people who think HC is actually any harder than SC. Last edited by ifarmpandas#7993 on Dec 20, 2012, 1:02:41 PM
