eternal lotteries = scam

I have a dollar. This dollar has value, and I can use it to purchase goods and services with set prices. I can also, if I choose, take this dollar and use it to purchase a lottery ticket or place a bet on a horse. If I use it to purchase a good or a service, then I will have something at the end of the transaction. If I "gamble" with it then I may never see it again.

Now, consider that this is the only dollar I have ever seen, and possibly the only one that I will ever see. It is sitting in my pocket, burning a hole. Do I use it to trade for something with a known value, or do I gamble it away? Which, in the long run, is a safer investment of that dollar?

Snake oil salesmen, con-men, and the guy that runs the local Three-Card-Monty game all want you to make one decision, and will paint the rosiest picture they can to get you to lay that dollar down. Is that really how you want to spend your only dollar, ever?

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

if you donate 5 fusings/etc to lottery and they show you the link after every use.. (theres no way to scam you with that) aside for not giving you the prize.. but thats different.. my point is they still use your donations with the proof (by linking after each orb use)

That's not really true though. If you give someone five fusings for a 6L lottery attempt, even if they link you the result after each fusing attempt, there's nothing to stop them from using an eternal orb when a fusing hits the 6L, continuing to use a few fusings they already had to finish off your attempts, and then recall the stored version of the item in the eternal. Granted, they're out an eternal, but I've never seen a lottery draw any attention that didn't use a buttload of exalts as the lure.

Right guys, I've at this point in time made about three trades in total in Path of Exile so I think we can all agree that I'm a bit of an expert on the subject.

Allow me to share some lessons on how trading works.

The trade screen has two sections. The bottom sections is where you put what you'll be giving away and the top section where the other player will put what you're going to get.

That's the trade you're making. What you put in the bottom section against what the other puts in the top section. Whatever you discussed with the other before hand is not the trade you're making. What's in the trading window counts.

If there's nothing in the top section of the trading screen then that's what you're getting. Nothing.

Some people don't even know they can be scammed by this trick.

Some do it in twitch. I'm not sure if they could scam from twitch.

That depends if they actually watch the stream. People are lazy so they just wait for the links in game.
