Hmm I probably am being too cynical. Maybe they don't go on the internet and tell lies. Maybe they go on the internet and get so distracted by porn that they forget the truth.

I disagree. I think in the game, as in life, you shouldn't gift something and then expect something in return. You could donate $20 to me and I could then spend it all on chocolate. Once you've given the money to me, it's mine to do whatever I like with it. If you expect to receive something in return for your gift, then it's not really a gift but a sales transaction. You buy a ticket to a lottery, and that transaction is governed by a contract. You don't donate money to a lottery and just hope they'll be nice and give you a prize if your numbers are drawn.

TLDR: The problem isn't people giving away currency to each other in so called "lotteries", it's that they expect something in return. Gifting currency is not purchasing a lottery ticket or purchasing a right to a prize.

Uh, what? You know what the term "lottery" means right? These people arent donating currency; they are playing a lottery in which the currency buys them a ticket, so to speak.

I dont even know how you can argue what you are arguing, unless you are trolling. Its not a gift; it is a transaction. People arent giving these lottery guys currency just to throw away for nothing. They are giving these to WIN something, and that something is advertised by the lottery guy over, and over, and over, and over.

I have no idea why you think its a gift. The guys are spewing "6l this and win 9 exalts" or whatever all the time. You call that gifting when you give that guy fusings? Really? You are giving him fusings, in the hope of WINNING a prize. Thats not a gift.

Edit: Lottery - a means of raising money by selling numbered tickets and giving prizes to the holders of numbers drawn at random.

That sound like a gift to you? Doesn't to me. Sounds like a transaction.

That's a waste of currency, when they can just take the result and not pay you without all the tricks. There's no obligation to pay out a lottery, that's the risk you take when you trust other players.

If it's not a gift, do you think you can sue the lottery runner for a breach of contract? ;-P

Yes, people are giving away currency with the hope to win something in return, and they're not being very smart. Trade chat lotteries are not regulated by laws. You're not really buying a lottery ticket or a chance to win. You are just giving currency and hoping for something in return. So you shouldn't be surprised if you don't get anything in return even if you think you've 'won', because you never bought a ticket or a chance to win a prize. You’re just taking a stranger's word that he/she will give you a prize if something-that-is-beyond-your-control occurs in the game. That's fine as long as you understand that he/she may never give you a prize and simply take your currency as a gift. If you don’t want to risk being a sucker, don’t play these 'lotteries'.
