If you make finding/crafting useful gear easier, then buying upgrades will still be inferior to crafting them, unless you implement account-bound mechanics (Chris stated he dislikes account-binding) or make gear personalized enough so it loses trade value.

Actually just wrote a post about this in suggestions.

true, it isn't.
that's why trading should stay complicated. if it were easier, people would spend even more time trading. because it's more rewarding (currency wise) than playing the game.

Pretty sure its the other way around

a)players would spend more time trying to trade

b)players give up and try crafting

c)player crafts rubbish, goes bankrupt

Diablo 3's economy was "Diablo 3" because trading was easier than finding useful gear so everyone ended up trading instead of actually playing the game.

But the problem didn't lie in the fact that trading was too easy, it was because obtaining useful items was too difficult.

i never played d3 but would it have increased the motivation of people to play if high end items and gear were plentyful and easy to aquire ingame and even easier to find and trade in the auction house? i don't think so.

players want to brag around in the forum with their gg gear only because it's rare. that means it needs to be hard to find.

i agree with novalisk and veta completely btw

but with one difference

if you 2 do your jobs right we could have an auction house and nobody would care because people could just craft their own gear.
in other words, auction house would die because nobody would want to use it

poe.xyz or AH your choose, I won't spam on trade chat to get rare with option I needs ...

gems uniques etc are different story but try to get rare item that you need from trade Chanel gl hf

you're near the truth but you're not contradicting my arguments. at least for me.

when crafting i banged my head so often against my keyboard my girlfriend wonders where the windows symbol on my forehead comes from in the morning.

but that's what keeps me playing. if i easily succeed (or just buy the stuff), there is no challenge.
i want to have lucky moments. but that also means disappointment is the default.

my recipe for less dissapointment when crafting is to immediately spend all currency on the actual item i want to build. i don't know how many fusings i already spent on bunnie's chest in domination and that's a good thing.

Since Chris forces a trading sim instead of crafting, http://poe.xyz.is/ and http://poexplorer.com/?league= are absolutely essential. Chris is determined to kill solo play and crafting still sucks (fusings are better now but still need improvement) 3rd party sites are needed for the game.

When/If Chris makes an indexer/marketplace for PoE the 3rd party sites will die. Until then long live XYZ and Explorer.
Crafting doesn't exist in POE. Gambling does...and the house always wins.

Velocireptile - I LOL'ed. Which made me fart. I wish the office were empty right now :(

Hardlicker - I had to push the dog out of the way so I could get to the sexy quilt.

Not all of us are as persistent and dedicated as you though...

I really admire your tenacity, but in the end GGG wants MORE players for MOAR $$$, and while PoE is designed to appeal to hardcore players, aren't you a bit TOO hardcore?

he's not "hardcore", Teridax - he's a masochist.

hardcore, is taking on an uber-boss in Median XL.
hardcore, is playing Hardcore Elite in Torchlight 2, and trying Tarroch's Tomb in NG+.
hardcore, is playing Dark Souls with a keyboard.
hardcore, is going into an Arcade in Japan, and playing the tutorial part of a bullet-hell game (bonus points: while drunk) :)

masochist, is randomly wiping out on a random "crafting" attempt, with currency you obtained randomly - then grind until randomly obtaining that random currency again, to attempt another random "craft", only to randomly fail again.
Spoiler
random

Path Of Exile's "screw you randomly, then gear-check" system isn't difficulty.
what it is, is pseudo-difficulty. it's a rather cheap method to keep you playing.
cheap, but effective.
to GGG, Geradon is "hardcore". their kind of "hardcore".
apparently, GGG have no clue that real "hardcore" means.

Shadow: That was fun
