Character names clashing

Allowing multiple word names where each word can start either with upper or lower case is the best option. This way even without numbers or special characters should last for more than a million cool and estethical names. If spaces are a problem in chat commands, it can be solved by a some kind of quotation.

The WORST that can be done is restrict character names like for example aion - one word, no spaces or _ , first letter have to be upper case, others lower case.

A name and a surname option may be bad cuz either the unique surname will be able to be a leetspeed crappy, or crappy because all good are unavailable (for example due to one word rule).

You're apparently looking for someone to just agree with you.

You;ve also yet to give one compelling reason for GGG to allocate resources to changing the database for something that doesn't even qualify as a problem.

Not at all, I'm willing to consider arguments against my position. But when you (and others) simply say "you just didn't get the name you want" I roll my eyes and walk away.

Further, when you say I haven't presented reasons other than wanting a particular name - and presenting reasons other than that is the *only* thing I've done - there's nothing to discuss with you.

I've presented points. None of them have to do with me getting a particular name. I made clear I'd use x's regardless. So if you want to discuss those reasons, please feel free to read and consider my posts, and tell me where you think my logic fails.

I'm not saying this *is* worth dedicating resources to, I'm saying that's a question only the developers can answer.
Since you insist on being a pedant as well, please ignore any language about databases.

This is a non issue that you want "fixed". This "fix" would presumably not happen all by itself. I submit that ANY time spent addressing this non-problem would be better spent doing something else. And since your "feature" does not exist, we can safely conclude that GGG agrees.

Im 100% in favor of unique naming. D2 had it, it was fine. Besides with all the people that use vulgar words as names, theres plenty of "real" names left.
GGG - Why you no?

Not at all, STO, a far more complicated game - and during post release, so with a larger player base - managed to implement this exact feature post launch.

The notion that "because it's not there, it never will be" is patently false. Act 4 isn't there, and they've already stated they've had discussions about whether to do an additional act.
I still fail to see whats the problem with people having unique names. If GGG didn't want people to be jealous they can't get something others have, they wouldn't let Demigod's Presence to survive to open beta or even let closed beta players have kiwis.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

I didn't suggest that "because its not there it never will be" - although that certainly is a possible outcome. What we can certainly conclude is that even if GGG wants and is planning on making a name system change, it is low enough on the priority list that it hasn't happened yet.

In any event, unique identifiers prevent fraudulent accounts and counterfeited players. They also add a little cachet to your own name. Its cool to have a name and know that no one else can have it.

I think that preventing someone in game from pretending to be someone else potentially maliciously outweighs any convenience benefit to having someone you know, but not well enough to actually communicate with, be able to find you by character name.

I've made numerous posts that detail the benefits of linking names to accounts for identification.

If you can't be bothered to read any of them, why should I be bothered to repeat myself?
Do you keep your account name the same as your character ?

And ironically enough, an account-linked system - what you're advocating against - is the best way to accomplish that.

It's possible for characters to get deleted and someone to snipe a character name, or for people to mistake names for that of someone else. All of these lead to the "maliciousness" you just said is important to avoid.

And yet, it is only when you append the account name to the name of the character that this "maliciousness" becomes virtually impossible.
