Chris confirms to go through mid: Scion or bust

i love the hate and insults, its pretty hilarious. all i see is wah wah my current build is going to be minorly inconvenienced.

its their game, and it is currently in beta. anything and everything can change. we still don't see an absolute finish product of the tree so we fully know how the changes will help or hurt. rest assured theres still going to be builds and new builds that will wreck the game.

i think its funny...people are holding up GGGs game to their own definition and opinion on balance then negatively criticizing.

if your build is "ruined" get over it and think up a new build. don't be so frickin proud, get over yourself. if you don't want to get over it and want to whine bitch and moan then go ahead and quit. i'd rather have a game filled with people addicted to adapting than cookie cutter build followers that cry when they're forced to think

that being said, im interested to see how they change the existing passives locations so that scion doesn't become the first come first serve choice in basically all builds. im also curious as to why they decided to do this AT LAUNCH and not IN BETA where it could be tested first in order to tweak anything further if it needed to be

you do know we're most likely gonna get a full tree reset when the patch hits right?
at least so far with every major change of the skill tree we got a reset so we wont end up with half done/useless chars
so calm down and carry on....
They should just do away with the web and give us a simple tree like every other ARPG then. Honestly, since they whittled it down to 2 paths from the starting locations I have thought they should just do away with it completely - it no longer does what it was originally intended to do.

My version of the center
Note that passages through the middle are possible, but they all tell the player "hey, you could have made this build as a Scion." So no class would ever be better than Scion at cross-tree stuff, but you could sometimes pick different classes for aesthetic reasons, so it's not a non-stop Nicole Kidman fest.

Spoiler

Almost the same travel distance. I feel it maintains the sense that you don't have to be Scion to cross the center, but that she does still have much more versatility when doing so.
I don't like your changes, because you really should have to be a "Scion" to cross the center like that. By "Scion" I don't necessarily mean actually choosing the Scion class, but the passive tree structure should be one that could be a Scion. Nobody should be better than the Scion at her niche, although it's okay for other classes to sometimes equal her.

I think the key thing you guys are failing to understand here is that the Scion needs her own area of the tree which she owns decisively. You simply cannot make passing through the center as easy as it used to be and still have Scion as a viable class; the other classes need to give some things up in order for the Scion to have enough power of her own.

I find it a pretty bad decision tbh because I feel like for many builds Scion will be the best choice.
For many builds, Witch is the best choice. For many builds, Marauder is the best choice. Yet people have a problem if, for many builds, Scion is the best choice? People have a problem if some of their old builds are now better as Scions? It's like people don't want Scion to have a niche at all, and the only thing they care about is selfishly preserving their old builds.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

And if the Scion wouldn't be the best choice for any build, they would complain that it's a big crap of a class.

These days this forum is earning a full delete + ban all.
Out of curiosity, what exactly is the downside of having tons of Scions running around? Because the only thing I can see is that the character models will be similar. And even that won't be too bad because of armor. As far as build diversity goes, I see no downside. Sprawling builds are still possible, there's just a good chance you're better off starting with Scion. I really don't see what all the fuss is about. Classes never made a difference beyond starting position anyway.
I wonder if people would still have issues with this if we were given the option to convert existing characters into Scions (to preserve an existing build without making a new character). Potentially losing the ability to continue with your current build is the biggest problem that I see, at least, without getting a better look at the new passive layout.

I can sympathize that it sucks to lose your progress toward your goal because the developer took the rug out from under your feet. Having a character not able to continue with the build they had yesterday really sucks, especially if that build is still available to a different class and now you've got the wrong one. But GGG also has to make the Scion class special and letting people start with a high level one would tarnish that. After the transition from Scion-like builds using non-Scion classes to a post Scion world, I think it will be alright.
I created a Shadow lvl75 "CI vaal pact" this weekend and another similar lvl 50 today, noooooooo
My CI Crit Dagger Shadow will be impossible with the new tree but im not to worried will just reroll scion and do it that way :)
