Chris confirms to go through mid: Scion or bust

I'm not really too worried or complaining but;

Why bother having a huge connected skill tree if you can't navigate it?

The centre tree in those screenshots is just ridiculously bad compared to the current one.

Hey, sorry, it was done in MS Paint. I suck at photo editing. ;)
Spoiler
Not what you meant; I know.
Devolving Wilds
Land
“T, Sacrifice Devolving Wilds: Search your library for a basic land card and reveal it. Then shuffle your library.”
Also on first glance the claims that Scion, being in the middle, will struggle to specialize sounds odd to me. Why exactly? Sounds to me like the opposite would be true; you're in the middle you can specialize in any direction you please. Oh well, I guess we'll see once we have more information :)
Problem with scion is a hilarious one.

Now whenever you buff one of the 6 originals, you have to nerf the middle unless you want the Scion to be buffed for no reason.
But if you nerf the middle, you could end up nerfing builds that were not even going to travel towards the buffed zone...

I'll point this out again:
GGG hadn't even balanced the skill tree for 6 classes, and now they added 1 more.

there is pro and cons globally, but I would need to see the passiv tree before having an final opinion about it...

Anyway any new drastic changes in the passiv tree mean new hundreds hours of theorycrafting and this is welcome :)

I'm pretty much of the same opinion. I think people are over-reacting overall, but even if they are not, there is nothing more rewarding then spending 8 hours at work clicking nodes on POE website theorycrafting builds.

because it simplifies balance for a company that has been historically fucking terrible about balance

lol

i'll bet you anything sporkers remain untouched.....

;)

but yes, i agree. if they're going the route of just disconnecting shit as much as possible, the entire concept of a shared skill tree might as well be scrapped.

For me the scion will have a major weakness, and it is the ability to specialize, whereas other classes can specialize if they want, but scion seems to be more of a jack of all trades, or be good at least 2 things instead of great at 1.

Of course you could already do this with other classes, but this one seems to force you to do that.

Not really. You don't have to use all of your starting nodes, so there's nothing to stop a Scion making a beeline for the Witch area, say, and more or less ignoring the red and green nodes. It's really just a question of how expensive that path to the outside is and how beneficial it is.

I think some of the other classes could do with a bit more divergence in their starting area, especially the dual hybrids. For instance, at first glance the Shadow starting area consists of a spell/elemental/crit belt and an attack/defences belt, but the two belts run parallel to one another and repeatedly join up, so they're all pretty much the same belt in practice, and the Shadow doesn't really get the benefit of having two starting nodes (as compared to someone else who comes in through one belt and then crosses to the other). If the belts diverged, so the spell belt rapidly veered off towards the Witch area and the attack belt towards the Ranger area, making it more and more difficult to cross from one to the other the further you get from the Shadow start, then the Shadow would have a clear niche in being the only class that can use both of those belts at once in an efficient way.

What's the wager?
I find it a pretty bad decision tbh because I feel like for many builds Scion will be the best choice.
There will be too many Scion builds if she is best to reach all parts of the tree. There will always be other builds as well, but in the end if you like to experiment more you will have to use her most of all. Besides I like the character a lot and I will definitely play her. I am just saying I might be playing only her in the future, which is a little bit boring.
I like what the change implies for the other chars though. You will have to switch more between them and there is more difference between the outer startpoints.
