Steam lists PoE as an MMO?
" Yeah, at some point it does come down to semantics. I would say 24 people at a time would be massive enough if it was in ALL areas, not just towns. Most games that I would consider true MMORPG's though would allow a lot more people than that in a zone. It should certainly be a considerably larger number of people than a single party. Probably even larger then an alliance/raid group(for games that allow such things). It should be large enough that a significant number of the people you encounter in the zone are likely to NOT be ones you are directly playing with. Often, you will in fact be competing AGAINST them for mobs or other limited resources. |

" It's not about agreeing or disagreeing. The way the term MMO is defined does not fit PoE. It's as simple as that. PoE does not have a persistent world. Everything in the game is instanced. This, by definition, means that PoE is not MMO. To explain it further: In PoE the areas that are closest to being considered MMO are towns, as there can be up to 24 players in those instances. However, even if at one point there are 24 players in one instance, once all of them leave and no new players join the same instance, after a certain time passes (8-15 minutes I think) the instance will close and be gone forever. If PoE was MMO, you would always be in the same town. Last edited by Reizoko#4460 on Oct 10, 2013, 12:59:31 AM

" GW1 was later classified as a CORPG which fits PoE to some degree, at least if you read this definition: http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Competitive_online_role-playing_game |

"Action, Adventure, Free to Play, Indie, Massively Multiplayer, RPG"
It doesn't really fit in any of the listed genres, does it? It's more like the target groups of the game. MMO players like to build characters, grind gear and play online with others so POE may be a pleasant surprise for them. edit: it should be listed in "strategy" as well. " This is the first time I've ever heard anyone calling GW1 an MMO. Last edited by Alhoon#2008 on Oct 10, 2013, 3:04:08 PM

" Action, Free to Play, Indie, RPG. Not that hard but as other people pointed out, Steam is awful in categorizing games. Also I agree with MonstaMunch, it could lead to false expectations. |

"MMO" has pretty much become an umbrella term for online pc games that have gameplay with more than 4v4 or so.You have your mmorpgs, mmo-strategy typs, mmo-shooters, etc etc. I'd like a sub category of mmo-arpg/dungeon crawler/most-epicest-game-ever but sadly I don't see that happeneing. Mmo is as good a tag as any for it if you ask me.
Everything I do I rush through so I can do something else.

Torchlight can be played singel player, without a Connection if i remember correct, thats why its a RPG game.
While PoE is a Online game, will say MMO |

" Because TL2 is a single player game, not a massively multiplayer online game. Any game with a 'massive number of players playing online' is an MMO. Games which are single player first and foremost with optional multiplayer are not MMOs because they are primarily classed as single player games. PoE absolutely is an MMO-ARPG. You cant play the game single player and it is full of a massive number of players.
