Whats the point of playing hardcore?

Didn't read the thread.

Question: "Whats (sic) the point of playing hardcore?"

Answer: It is more fun, for me, than the alternative. Regardless of anything else, because it is more fun, it is where I shall reside. After all, this is a video game, the sole purpose is enjoyment.

Its actually so funny that so many HC players are actively defending the guy that was called out in the OP for alt f4ing, but oh no, 'I never alt F4 and no one I know alt f4s either'.

Sure you don't, just like that guy didn't.

Its a CI character by the way that was waiting for better ES gear before taking CI. Currently the same character is at level 78, 1 HP, 0 Armor, 4,500+ ES and face tanking in maps after a Claw / CI / GR / VP respec (I didn't play the game for the last 5+ months).

That video was taken long before all the melee buffs and AI nerfs. For a level 55 character at the time it was sufficient and got up to level 73 before needing respeccing.

However I didn't die in that video due to my HP, I lasted over 15 mins, and that same build at that level was facetanking Kole and Brutus effortlessly. The only issue was the whirling blades induced desync which still happens today, and that would get you killed in most instances if it happens to you.

Its pretty pathetic really that you blame an obvious dwsync on character build when I was playing it absolutely fine.

And this precisely displays why hardore and softcore are different. In hardcore you actually have to account for levels 1-70, and in softcore, you just zerg rush to 70, indifferent to what happens in between, whereas in hardcore, 70 is meaningless if you die on the way.

Your example of facetanking Kole is irrelevant. A single, slow attacking monster is not going to stun lock you, which caused your death. Comparing that situation to your death is pointless, as is incrementing the deathcount once more...

Yes, you did. You desynched when you tried to run while stunned, and you were stunned because you had miserable HP. Every single CI build I've ever seen has a discussion of how to avoid/cope with stun because of low base HP. You can't just ignore the entire stun mechanic and then blame bad coding for the result.

Yes, a better rubber-banding algorithm should have been in place to beat you over the head with the stun. No, that doesn't excuse your /oos neglect or your surprise that "zomg, I got stunned when I had 700 HP?"

Things like power outages do actually happen. If your character stayed around after a d/c from that, there would be a lot of unhappy people.

That's just another excuse to defend keeping Alt F4 to escape death in the game. Power outages happen incredibly rarely, far less often than an ISP or client side DC or crash.

Happened to my friend just last week. Drunk driver hit the power line in front of his house. He still ripped because of it tho. Now he's playing with me in Anarchy.

That's not really true, though. You just grab a pair of facebreakers + Perandus + meginord and grind Ledge/Fellshrine/Docks and get your friends to rush you or buy rushes for a chaos or two. There are differences between the leagues, sure, but it's easy to get to 70 if you so desire.

Are you still failing to realize I was building a CI melee? That doesn't take life nodes because HP becomes 1? Sheesh.

I also didn't see any stun, and you cannot confirm that it was stun, or merely just lag. That same desync happens almost everywhere in the game with both whirling blades and cyclone, regardless of if you are stunned or not, its a broken client side lag issue that still hasn't been fixed. Stun and also freeze are huge issues for CI characters, and maybe you are right and they wouldn't be feasible at all on HC, but that to me is exactly why HC sucks so badly, that everyone is forced into playing one build, and one build only and that is HP stacking.

Carry on enjoying your boring scrubby HP stacker build after HP stacker build. The developers of this game promised the ability to play any build that each player chooses, not the single build that HC scrubs determine is the only one valid build in the game (ZOMG NOT ENUF HP, YOU NEED MOAR HP AND MOAR HP AND MOAR HP!!!!!11111).

You do nothing but prove to me how much HC nad its player base suck in this game.

Well shit. That sounds like fun.

Guess I've been doing it wrong all this time.

Skipping all challenge content is right up there with Alt-f4ing.
I wonder why the mods have let this thread get to this point.
