So is GGG selling out, or what?

I quite like my footprints, also it's pronounced RASSUER... not razor, how barbaric.

what's this brand name stuff

Oh so the 10,000$ packs, 1000$ packs and pay to win to make your own unique was ok, but now having ricer products endorse you is selling out.

GJ op you're very smart.
There's a small but important bit of information that apparently/unfortunately was only posted on Reddit:

Quoting Chris from the Reddit entry:

Deals like this generally don't involve any money changing hands. It's entirely us mentioning each other's products to our respective communities. If this results in more players for us, that'll be more money/features/servers in the long term

In-game advertisement needs to be discussed, of course but it's not like GGG sold their soul to the devil like some people seem to believe.

@the OP and everyone with that mindset:

GGG is a company. A small one, made up of real people with real obligations - real wives/husbands/children/medical bills/mortgage payments etc... they aren't *selling out* because they aren't a group of teenagers in a garage. GROW. THE HECK. UP.

How longly it must be, sitting in the corner, frothing at the mouth and insulting/lashing out at the vast majority of gamers, and developers, the 99% of other online games that don't sell out with in game advertising for a damn good reason. I didn't realize children and idiots run the gaming industry.

Money not changing hands doesn't matter. Thats not what its about, and it isn't required to be considered "selling out".

My comment wasn't directed at anyone in particular. I just wanted to add a piece of information that might be important for the discussion. :-)
I will say that while having ads in video games is nothing new, you rarely see it implemented in quite such a tacky manner. The comparison with the pizza hut logo was brought up earlier... This is closer to Lara Croft opening the ancient temple and seeing an ancient image of the McDonalds logo carved into the wall. It just looks incredibly out-of-place. It's one thing to have advertisements that fit the theme, but using a logo as a character's ability or image? Eh... Tacky. Very tacky. I'm not going to judge GGG, I'm just going to point out that it looks ugly as hell, and I damn well will judge the aesthetic choices of any player who chooses to use it. Fugly.

Let's be real for 1second here...ANYONE who is here from CB will be quite surprised at this action. The way GGG talked so lovingly about 'their vision' for the game 'they always wanted to play' & how lore was so important & keeping the authenticity of Wraelast was paramount.

It's the reason there was such a big debate about looting options. "We are exiles in a harsh land and should act accordingly" we were told, asif the lore of the land dictated our play. "You can't have pants as there are no horses in Wraelast & it wouldn't fit the lore" we were told. "We have had many internal debates over adding health bars & have decided against numbers as they break immersion" we were told.

12months ago GGG were adamant about their design goals, they seemed resolute to make sure their vision was not compromised in any way, the footprints show a huge turn in direction.

Whether you think it is a good thing or not it is absolutely fair to say that for GGG this does not coincide with their past attitudes...something has changed.
yeah name-dropping between colleagues lol

razer and grinding gear games are colleagues.. even if that were true, it's still very tacky

razer logo ethereal knives, or anything that isn't just a fade-in-fade-out stamp of a company's logo

Oh yeah, those big shiny kiwis were totally in keeping with the authenticity of Wraeclast.

What? A Kiwi is just an animal...like a crab, a monkey, a bear or a spider. You are REALLY clutching at straws here Charan.

Let me ask you this, when you donated a year ago did you expect GGG to eventually have IN GAME adverts? I HIGHLY doubt it.

We aren't talking about a splash screen or a logo on the login, GGG have added a real world corporate logo into a fantasy action RPG, it's a horrid precedent.
