Oh yeah, those big shiny kiwis were totally in keeping with the authenticity of Wraeclast.
Comparing a walking bird to a commercial logo is utterly ridiculous.

GGG is a company. A small one, made up of real people with real obligations - real wives/husbands/children/medical bills/mortgage payments etc... they aren't *selling out* because they aren't a group of teenagers in a garage. GROW. THE HECK. UP.
How longly it must be, sitting in the corner, frothing at the mouth and insulting/lashing out at the vast majority of gamers, and developers, the 99% of other online games that don't sell out with in game advertising for a damn good reason. I didn't realize children and idiots run the gaming industry.
I have no idea what you are talking about.. tell me something, Was having PoE plastered all over the PCgamer website "selling out"? This "in game add" you are so upset about is all but indistinguishable in the game itself, the effect lasts for seconds, if GGG hadn't told us what it was for and had just said "hey check out this new green footprint we added" nobody would have even made the connection.

One of the most idiotic things you have ever said. It is a corporate logo, if you hadn't heard of Razer before now you must have been living under a rock.
Your blind fanboyism is a detriment to the game.

What is this, I don't even....
Advertising a product isn't "selling out." Taking money from another party to have people advertise inside of your own product, is selling out.
So all you've really said, is that PCGamer "sold out," but that's their business model. To sell space inside their magazine and on their website.
If I write a song, and advertise my concerts, I have not sold out. If I get paid to sing a song about how great Coca-Cola is, I have sold out.

It's the reason there was such a big debate about looting options. "We are exiles in a harsh land and should act accordingly" we were told, asif the lore of the land dictated our play. "You can't have pants as there are no horses in Wraelast & it wouldn't fit the lore" we were told. "We have had many internal debates over adding health bars & have decided against numbers as they break immersion" we were told.
12months ago GGG were adamant about their design goals, they seemed resolute to make sure their vision was not compromised in any way, the footprints show a huge turn in direction.
Whether you think it is a good thing or not it is absolutely fair to say that for GGG this does not coincide with their past attitudes...something has changed.
And then reality of the real world came in and served them up a harsh dose of truth. GGG began developing their game, putting it out into the real world and saw that their vision...well...couldn't stand. Reality is a harsh mistress and even the best laid visions, the most staunch attitudes behind decisions, those who would shout from the rooftops that their goals will not change...reality changes that really fast. That's not to say their intentions weren't good/noble/whatever, but idealistic banter that GGG said wasn't going to hold and sadly, anyone who somehow thought that it would given the current state of the world we live in now was simply fooling themselves.
The things that have happened over the last year have shown a change in direction and shown that GGG is having to accept that harsh truth that the real world brings. And perhaps in some cases maybe that harsh truth has shown that their previous talks were just that...talks...and that there's a big difference between talking and actually having to do. Methinks in some ways GGG may have tried to bite off more than they could chew with this game at times and they honestly didn't think everything through. THAT IS NOT TO SAY THAT THEIR GAME SUCKS, please don't misunderstand that. What it is saying, is that you can say the noblest of things, but when you're faced with real world deadlines, money being a big issue, and learning that perhaps some of your decisions may have just honestly been wrong...well...again...that's reality.

I partly agree that GGG are dreamers who have had a dose of reality but I feel that their business could have worked had they tried harder.
Ethical, none pay2win MTXS were supposed to pay for this game. I believe they could have. I blame GGG for having such a poor selection, particularly at OB launch.
I have been vocal about it in the past and these recent events have vilified my comments. GGG have done a bad job of offering quality microtransactions to their players. OB launch had a pitiful selection of bad animations & undesirable skins. They failed to capitalise on the 75k players online & they failed to offer the community something cool.
To this day they still haven't offered anything for some of the most popular aspects & skill of the game. Freezing Pulse is a perfect example of the most popular skill in the game not being offered anything in terms of microtransactions. It has been a massive oversight by & has resulted in them having to compromise their game with corporate logos.
Had GGG done a better job of marking their game & offering quality MTXS for the popular parts of the game I would assert that we may not be in this situation we are today.

Its amazing to me that you guys seem to want this game to have a low budget. This game can be even more incredible with a higher budget . GGG needs to do more advertising, get more sponsors and greatly expand their budget in my opinion.

The best way to increase their budget is to increase their user base.
Compromising the integrity of their game by stamping corporate logos all over your world is just sad.
Most game studios, except for very large ones, don't do things like that because it's against their mission statement.
You can even negotiate sponsorship deals with companies like Razer without allowing their copyrighted logos to pollute your theme/world.

I don't think it's so much selling out as just surviving, though it will likely bite them in the ass, as this thread portends.

Now that is something we both agree upon for sure. :)
