A bit tired of the "HC master race" attitude.
There are idiots and kids on either side. And some idiot kids too, that pollute any thread they can just for lulz. Consequently the signal to noise ratio in any thread on this or almost any other game website is too low to allow effective feedback to filter through.
One thing I have noticed though, since 2000 when I was playing Everquest, is that certain genres attract different types of people. Specifically, pvp, HC, and games that allow griefing. Whilst many 'normal' people play those modes, and have fun dong so, it often seems to act like a black hole in attracting the antisocial types. Having default and HC, coupled with ninja-looting, PK'ing and "free to play and make as many alts as you can" gameplay, PoE seems destined to become the new game for attracting scum and villainy. And that is a shame. It is a shame for the devs who are trying to make a profitable game. Every person chased off by the rabids is another mtx lost. Each person that is griefed or ripped off or made fun of so that they quit this 'free game' hurts us all. But it seems a lot of people forget this, or just don't care anymore. At least when you had to configure EMS and XMS memory, make a boot disk to ignore your cd-rom, and generally faff around in order to make a game run - it kept the sociopaths away. tl;dr: fuck you. learn to read. No tldr from me. |

" I was ranked #7 on D2 hc ladder one season and #19 on another. I only play sc in PoE. I can tell you better than most, hc requires absolutely zero extra "skill". People don't like it simplified so much, but it's just a slower experience, and nothing more. | |
Terrible thread that had no point to be created in the first place, all this ends up doing is making both sides look bad and fuels negative feelings about the game, always surprising how stuff like this makes so many people butthurt, does it really matter at the end of the day? Wasn't have the most fun playing the game how you want is all about?
Guessing a lot of people really do have self esteem issues to go as crazy as I seen some people go at it over this topic, kind of sad really. |

" You see it as a problem, I don't. It makes certainly the SC economy special though. In practice 99% item drops are used like vendor trash, but for just a little currency you can get "good gear". Now godly gear is expensive, but that's not an issue. This message was delivered by GGG defence force.

Charan, I leave it up to you whether this thread continues open or not. I think it did well, but I got what I wanted to know out of it.

No problems. It was not a complete loss considering the incendiary topic and the moth-to-the-flame reactions. :)
Good enough to encourage me to tap out a reply via swype. That wasn't much fun. Although for the sake of summary and conclusion, what did you get out of it? I've seen bits and pieces along the way but nothing decisive. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

" Mostly good attitude from Hardcore players that dismisses the doubts I might have had. What I wanted NOT to see was polite, well written arguments trying to defend the idea that HC or SC is entitled to be the center of game balance, because that would've meant that the intelligent part of the community does believe there is a different importance to both modes. Every well written post I've seen however goes along the lines of "there is no difference" or "I play both", which is pretty much the way I feel. Also I wanted to hear reasons why people play HC. This is a topic that I find quite interesting since being a long time Roguelike player (DCSS is my favourite single player game) I am often puzzled at myself for having zero interest in Hardcore, so wanted to see some points of view. |
