Let me put this in the least confrontational way possible: The fact that you have chosen to play the game in a different manner, which rewards a more careful and defensive style of play (Hardcore) doesn't make you more skilled or experienced at the game than me.
I've had hundreds of conversations now in which the crude ad hominem argument "shut up, default player" has come up in one way or another, and the problem is, it seems to be taken seriously by many. It has gotten to the point Hardcore players dismiss Standard players feedback out of hand, as if the game had to be balanced around Hardcore mechanics, Standard being an afterthought.
The truth is, whether or not a player enjoys Hardcore or Standard has little to do with skill. I don't bother playing Hardcore because I don't see appeal in permadeath on a game that behaves so deterministically (I don't feel I lost anything unique if I die, I just feel the tedium of having to rebuild it again) and because I enjoy playing strange builds that don't necessarily aim for survivability. I have friends who play the same way and have a very deep knowledge of the game, and it saddens me to see some people on the forum look down on them. Some of these guys could play HC way better than the average HC player, it's just not their thing.
Now don't get me wrong: I appreciate the skills required to be a successful Hardcore player and I do have a great deal of respect for those who thrive in such a scenario. I just don't feel we should give the opinions of Hardcore players more credence just because they decided to build their characters around the core principle of never dying. After all, that is just one of many optimization criteria.
Sorry if this came out as a rant but I'm a bit tired of the notion that feedback from HC players is more valuable. Please discuss this in a mature way.
1. 9 times out of 10 a Hardcore player will most likely actually be better than a softcore player due to various reasons such as a lesser economy, its harder to gear/trade for currency, etc, they only have 1 life to work with, death is always around the corner in this game.
Remember games like Alex the Kidd on Sega Mastersystem or w/e? You had 3 lives to beat the ENTIRE game, it granted such a rush when you accomplished this. What is there to accomplish in softcore? Gear up a bit, build a glass cannon dps char and farm for what? To sell your currency/gear in an economy thats over inflated from no deaths/hardcore deaths?
2. This game is actually made and balanced for hardcore, if you fail to realize this you are seriously deluded. Hardcore players dismiss softcore players because often enough the advice they give people is horrid, and will only turn them off the game when they kill themselves on reflect damage mods cuz some jackass told them to ignore hp nodes and build glass cannon.
3. The truth is, you're wrong, and couldnt possibly be more wrong. If you can't see the thrill in perma death you've probably had everything handed to you on a silver platter in other games/life. Building up a HC stash and trading in the economy akin to other things is quite something. It also takes maybe 8 hours at a casual persons rate to re-level back to Merciless. One thing thats also nice about HC is you get to farm zones, a kind of.. relaxing reward for your hard earned efforts to get to that point.
4. If you really appreciated HC players as you say you wouldn't have written this post. Just because some HC player argued with your advice and was most likely correct doesn't give you the right to come and post this rubbish cuz you're butthurt about being wrong.
5. No need to apologize, just don't come to the forums and compare HC to SC again. You softcore's are welcome to your opinions, just don't try arguing with people that obviously know better. You can be wrong, everyone can, more often than not there is actually somebody thats probably better/will provide better criticism than you /shockhorror
If you're really as good as most HC players as you claim, go level a class. Come back when you're past a3 merciless, then talk.

I've played HC. It was easy and boring. The builds are boring. A good HC builds tries to stack so much defense that you take the skill out of survival so you can live through desync and other technical issues. zzzzzzz

Yeah, just another butthurt internet kiddie that can't accept that people (not necessarily me) are often enough more more skilled, more educated in regards to the game and just generally better.
