A bit tired of the "HC master race" attitude.

Let me put this in the least confrontational way possible: The fact that you have chosen to play the game in a different manner, which rewards a more careful and defensive style of play (Hardcore) doesn't make you more skilled or experienced at the game than me.

I've had hundreds of conversations now in which the crude ad hominem argument "shut up, default player" has come up in one way or another, and the problem is, it seems to be taken seriously by many. It has gotten to the point Hardcore players dismiss Standard players feedback out of hand, as if the game had to be balanced around Hardcore mechanics, Standard being an afterthought.

The truth is, whether or not a player enjoys Hardcore or Standard has little to do with skill. I don't bother playing Hardcore because I don't see appeal in permadeath on a game that behaves so deterministically (I don't feel I lost anything unique if I die, I just feel the tedium of having to rebuild it again) and because I enjoy playing strange builds that don't necessarily aim for survivability. I have friends who play the same way and have a very deep knowledge of the game, and it saddens me to see some people on the forum look down on them. Some of these guys could play HC way better than the average HC player, it's just not their thing.

Now don't get me wrong: I appreciate the skills required to be a successful Hardcore player and I do have a great deal of respect for those who thrive in such a scenario. I just don't feel we should give the opinions of Hardcore players more credence just because they decided to build their characters around the core principle of never dying. After all, that is just one of many optimization criteria.

Sorry if this came out as a rant but I'm a bit tired of the notion that feedback from HC players is more valuable. Please discuss this in a mature way.

Sorry to tell you kid, but just the fact that HC is far more punishing automatically makes it harder. If you can't understand that very simple fact then you shouldn't even be talking about it.

This is the kind of attitude that has to stop. You completely missing the point.

Hardcore is NOT harder because it has a different penalty. Hardcore takes more time & patience to avoid certain things.

And again; if you have this attitude on the higher levels in default, hell, you won't even get beyond level 80.

hey i just had a level up lets do piety temple map what can i lose

said no hc player ever :)

comparing a crappy 85 death in sc with the complete loss of a highlvl even lvl 50 is enough including gems uniques links ect is plain retarded

what do you do when you die in sc at 85 you press ressurrect and join the next 72+map

what does the hc player do ? rushing hillock on twillight strand and twinking his toon with crappy low lvl uniques

see the difference ?

The time to get the exp back from lvl 85+ after a death, you could make a new lvl 50 toon by that time. On the lvl 50 toon you lose progression, gear & gems whereas on a lvl 85 death you lose progression & insane amount of currency & maps.

See the difference?

Like I said, if you do not understand the link between how unforgiving and punishing something is, and difficulty, then don't talk about it.

Hardcore = 1 mistake can be permanent death and you have to start all over again.

Softcore = 1 mistake can be a death, you lose 15% xp and just start up the maps again.

There is a huge difference.

Please read my post again. I never said what was more punishing and you are completely missing the point. I simply stated that you should not forget that dieing at higher levels in default takes also ALOT of time & currency and you simply CANNOT die at that level in order to progress.

So again, you cannot take deaths like it's nothing on default. You might as well just make a new character at that point.

Noobcore slave race you mean? HUr dur gaise I play sc and I'm soooo gewd at pOE, I die every 2 maps and almost every dps node possible and can click "resurrect" faster than anyone rank1 Internet tought guy Ftw leet 1K HP+ES -take 3min to clear a map homie and 5 days to level with the death penalty.

I don't fucking care where you play. I do care when a fucking noob like this one thinks he's better than anyone else for stupid reasons. You want to fear death ? Play HC. You don't want t fear death ? Play SC. You want a glass canon ? Play SC. That's all I need to know.

I'm really tired of this useless and endless fight. I won't judge you on how you decide to play this game. The post I quoted is just an example of a stupid douchebag playing in SC. We could find some example of a douchebag in HC telling "U R IN SC OLOLZ NOOB". For me, they are the same : douchebags, and that's all.

Lol high levels of butthurt detected. Initiate heartwarming response. Everything will be ok bud. I was mocking a common hc attitude. And you proved my point perfectly. There is a big difference in mocking and actually meaning it. You got your Templars non existent pants in a twist over nothing.

If you are aware, I just copied your text and ocking a common noobie attitude.

amen brother
Don`t worry about what other players think of your playstyle and just play the game however you want to. In the end it all boils down to you enjoying the game and having fun.

Hardcore is not better than Softcore, nor is Softcore better than Hardcore.
Its a personal preference and it is up to the one playing the game to decide in which mode he likes to play, period.

So if anyone say`s you`re a scrub because you play softcore (also called 'scrubcore' by some) then just ignore them and just continue on playing however you want.

To each his/her own, as they say.

Well you know what they say about people with big epeens, right?

EDIT: And also man, these peole who think they hard coz they seek the most punishing crack me up. Start boxing or some martial art irl if you want to feel hardcore, this paper hardcore shit virtual experience i can't take serious. Not saying that either regular or hardcore is better, but just rofling at those would be hard tough guys papier mache stance.
I am the light of the morning and the shadow on the wall, I am nothing and I am all.
