This game has a similar problem as d3- it's impossible to get good items without trading

my problem is not with trading itself, it's that without it, I, on my own, will likely never find top tier items

Never traded for a diffrent item than 1 Saffel`s (testrun), 1 Pillar of the Caged God (testrun), 1 lowlevel 5-maul (ca. lvl 30-40) for a twink, and i`m quite set on items; currently filling up the last slots with 68+..well when i`m not tryin out "new" builds.
Yes, i craftet a lot and i got quite a big stash trough...well grinding.

And that guy who values chars on their ladder placement...lol?
I can`t count how many chars between 70 to 80+ i already deleted..cause i don`t give a fuck about ladder-placement, like quite a lot of people.
And PvP on the otherhand is nothing more than "fishing" in torchlight atm. , a nice little distraction nothing more.

Thanks to the improved D2 lottery (orb-crafting) it`s easier to get endgame-gear than in every other hack`n slash...well besides D3 cause the inflation there kicked in quite fast.
I think rather than huge sweeping changes to loot drops the little changes that they make to currencies can help the underlying issue the OP has without overflowing the game with tons of items.

I love their idea for Jewellers/Fusings and think that they could make other small changes to crafting that would give more control to players over creating their top tier items.

Some other examples of possible fixes:

- Increase Armor Scrap/Blacksmithing stones drop rates
- Additionally Tie Alchs, Exalts, Alts, Chance orbs and other currency to quality
- Tier affixes so that quality increases the likelihood of top tier affixes appearing on items

Imagine if increasing quality to 20 also increased your chance orbs chance to roll a unique... all sorts of possibilities open up with minor tweaks to currency.
In my own personal experience going 'self found' in POE is currently viable. I have gone self found pretty much since the start of OB & I have 2 charas above 80, some 60's & a few I am leveling currently in the 30's.

I started out on an 'easy to gear' character & leveled him up with relative ease at the start of OB. Once leveled I turned them into a magic find character & farmed for specific alt gear as well as currency to aid making alts.

Once I had a sufficient capital of gear & currency I leveled my preferred chara (Ice Caster) with absolute ease, using uniques to blast through early levels & then onto the gear I had found on my mf'er.

I leveled my caster at breakneck speed, with great gear for the level & had zero deaths by level 80. I had planned my build well & it is a solid mapper.

Since then I have leveled 5 more charas all in the same fashion. Planning the build, farming the gear with an mf'er, & using uniques to blast through the low levels.

Self found is absolutely viable in POE, I am testament to that. I don't feel like I have been overly lucky either. I have only found 3ex if that means anything but I have used magic find to better my odds of finding upgrades.

I may not have the best gear in the game but I don't expect to either. When you go self found you should do so realising that you are 'taking the hard road'. Trading definately makes things easier, especially when there is an Auction House at your fingertips but any self founder will tell you it also steals from you the excitement of finding it yourself.

In relation to D3 the way POE differs is the way your gems level with you. Due to this mechanic even if you have all white gear you will still do a base amount of damage according to the level of your gem. In D3 all of your damage was based off of your weapon, so if you had a bad weapon there was little else you could do to up your damage & unless you found a weapon upgrade you were locked out of even being able to kill enemies, particularly ones with an enrage timer. (vomit)

I farmed for 6weeks in D3 for an upgrade, I did not find anything that came close to what I had bought off the auction house. I could not afford to buy an upgrade from the AH & 6weeks of farm didn't produce one either...that is when I gave up. Thus far it has not happened to me in POE & I feel I get an adequate amount of "oh shit, that's actually an upgrade...well I'll be damned".

What I am saying is, even with mediocre gear you can still make your way through the content due to the gem leveling with you & this makes finding upgrades a lot more viable in POE compared to D3.

Now maybe after all that the progression of finding upgrades for you is still too slow or time consuming but with reference to the title of the thread I can't agree that POE has the same gear find problem as D3.
The drops do seem kinda poor but then they are balanced with future items in mind. Still a lot of unique items to come and skill balance changes could easily change our perception of viable items.

One problem is the drops seem to partly be balanced around the idea everyone will be crafting and trading. The problem is the crafting system is a waste of currency except at end game and the trading system is inefficient, making it to where self found drops are used more than crafts or trades for most players.

They should increase the drop rate until crafting and trading is improved, skills are further balanced and the majority of unique items are in game.

Also this is a beta test and due to the above problems, not many of us have the chance to test much of anything. It's mostly the top few percent of players doing all the testing with the rest of us playing with table scraps.

I'm not proposing that they make all high tier items common as all that will do is raise the ceiling on what's considered acceptable but as it currently stands, the ability to make viable builds is shoe stringed by the trading, drops and crafting system. I don't think this is what they had in mind.

All of this comes from playing purely hardcore mode. It could very well be the opposite on default, which is probably the case, so ignore if so.
It is much much much easier to get good items in this game VS D3.

most of mt best items are self found or made the only item i have traded for is my bow
Kaom's? I bought 5L cause there is no way to get one in game until you play like 6 month straight

Do you even realize how stupid this sounds?
Someone HAS found those top tier items, someone HAS already played on their own to find those top tier items. It's not like GGG handed those items to the elite for free.
Start using your brain now and continue grinding.
self-found solo-only league with increased drop rates

Edit: and with better odds for jewelers/fusings crafting
