Bans for "Unintended" Mechanics? Insane

"
Banning people when the devs are the ones that made a mistake is insane tbh.

If by "insane" you mean "absolutely reasonable and in keeping with standard practice in online games for literal decades."

Like every exploit that has ever existed in any game has been the result of a oversight by developers. That's what an exploit is. Insane is you calling it "insane" to ban people for exploits as if that's not the #1 most common reason people have been getting banned from online games forever.
I am so happy they ban those ppl. You can brag all you want, ppl doing this KNEW 100% what they were doing, and next they destroy the economy till next big patch, ruining the game for everyone, but hey, there will be some ppl to defend them.
At least in hc i guess the damage must be really less.

I think that they definitely knew they were doing something that would soon be taken away.

I think they knew that this was a thing that would be detrimental to the economy.

And I also think everyone OP said was 100% true. Cases like this are tough, but tie goes to the runner.

I think GGG should obviously have fixed the issue quickly, removed as many impacted items as possible, and not banned the accounts.

It's pretty shitty to ban (steal money) from someone using something you built within the bounds that you built it.

If they ban for this, ban everyone that got to maps using bugged abilities too. Ban anyone who clears a map too quickly as they're probably using something bugged as well. No need to think through it, just ban em. (/s for the slower exiles out there)

I agree with OP.

Don't create a system that functions like this then punish those who figure out how to best use it. No unintended exploits were being abused just the system they fucking created? Then ban people because their own incompetence.

The players figured this out ONE DAY after release, let that sink in. Months of testing and not one person at GGG cottoned on to the fact that you could add up numbers to make something = 0? Literally the first thing I thought of when seeing the unique tablet was "I wonder if". Beyond the scope of the vision I guess. It helps having talent.

You don't punish the passengers of a bus because the bus driver crashed. You don't shoot the messenger. You say thanks community for pointing out this "unintended mechanic" we are grateful you caught this early. We didn't intend players to find loot.

Honestly how does something so blatant go unnoticed? It didn't in anyway look like an exploit when the item basically tells you THIS IS WHAT IT DOES!! Infinite rerolls! Then the first thing you ask after picking it up is "How can I get as many rerolls as possible". Just basic 1+1 logic so far. Ahh look this modifier 15% less cost to reroll....Boom ban. Not rocket science man, not even high school math.

Those worried about the economy make me laugh. The amount of bots, scammers & RMTs on the servers is a double digit % of the total player base. Worry about that as your next upgrade is a minimum of 40 divines and you have no means progress. Time to open the wallet or quit, cha ching "the vision".

All of this, plus it’s a beta test. GGG is treating this like a cash cow fully released game though.
The bans are absolutely asinine. The entire community did the EXACT same thing in Affliction league with multiproj spires. We did the sa,e thing in .1 with HoT/HOI. Players should not be banned for using mechanics as described. It’s on the developer to not put things like this in the game. Not the player to not use them exactly as designed.
The people who abuse exploits in ea are not going to magically stop abusing exploits when ea ends. Being in ea also does not magically make it okay to abuse exploits.

I think the thing being questioned is the definition of "exploit" which is fuzzy and not concretely defined. It's a fair thing to debate.

For example, one could argue that anyone that used that bugged whirlwind move to get to maps fast, farm for loot, etc. used an exploit and should be banned for it.

This sums it up perfectly. The focus shouldn't even be on the players who did it, the community should be focused on how incompetent GGG is for not seeing this when players figured it out day 1. Meanwhile, bots, RMT, and using a trade website destroy the market regardless and GGG let's it happen.

If something as simple and obvious as this gets completely overlooked, then it just tells me they are in over their heads and will never get this game on track. What's worse is SSF isn't an alternative due to drops and "crafting".

Completely justified. How is this even a question?
