The Amount of Time "Vacationing" is Actually Absurd

I’m not the person claiming I need some sort of immediate response, I’m just attempting to explain where they’re coming from. I spent 10 years in the industry before moving on to greener pastures (as a programmer you can make more money and have better work life balance I’m just about any other industry). Having the biggest launch in your companies history and then going radio silent for weeks is an unusual choice. They’re free to do that of course, it’s just a missstep. They would have saved themselves a bit of a headache if they delayed launch until they would actually be around.

Didn't mean to say you were the one personally calling for it, sorry. But I completely disagree with what you wrote here: as I already outlined in my previous posts. And others have outlined through the last 30+ pages.

Its not a misstep. This break will have absolutely no effect on the future success of the game. By releasing before a major holiday season, they got probably months worth of data in a fraction of the time. It was a calculated and probably very beneficial decision for the company and for the future of the game.

Its also not unusual. There have been numerous game launches and betas where the devs didn't respond or "do" anything for weeks at a time. It will happen again during THIS EA too.

I don't see the value in "putting myself in their shoes" because this whole argument screams of entitlement, whining, and nonsensical arguments. That is the true "why" of this thread's existence.

In fact....most game companies aren't vocal at all. They don't take ANY time to sit down for interviews, write out their future plans, offer any updates prior to patches.

Fair. Personally I don’t have an issue with the situation, just thinking more as a product manager who probably would have avoided the issue to shield my devs. I’m more in the camp of “I’m happy to have the game in its current state rather than no game at all.”

Also...vast majority of the ones posting arguments like these (not yours) are only looking for some sort of official validation of their own complaints about the game.

What happens when GGG releases a new patch and it doesn't answer or conform to their complaints? They will be right back here personally attacking GGG as a "bad company" making "bad decisions". They will find something else broad to blame them for, rather than providing actual, specific, relevant feedback.

It has nothing to do with the actual benefits vs. rewards of taking a vacation.

I for one, find it refreshing that a company gives their employees benefits, including paid time off with the intention their employees work for their families

I don't think it’s the time off people are sour about, it’s the fact that they were happy to release the game and take 30mil+ then go away. Maybe it costs them players, maybe not. Game still has 50% of the players that played on launch, not sure if that’s good or not for a month out.

Would you have preferred yet another delay and first beta to launch on January? At least now we got a beta to play during the boring holidays.

Oh for f's sake....they DID NOT GO AWAY. They literally HAVE to work on the game!!! This whole angle is ridiculous, accusing them of taking the money and running. It is their business, it is their livelihood, it is their entire future. And the freakng EA is nowhere near close to being over. Your $30 and their $30 million is still in active use.

You also realize you could have taken the same time off from playing the game and come back now right?

The game is not directly connected to a lifeline that keeps you from melting into a puddle of goo.

Yes, that probably would have been smart.

hehe, I don't believe a word of that. If they delayed again, I bet you and many others would be complaining about NOT having a game for another 3 weeks, instead of the holiday. If you are petty enough to complain about this...

Easy to say in hindsight you'd be fine with it, but I don't believe a word of it.

I am so glad they released it, and I have been able to play. I've been having a great time leveling 4 characters so far to 90+

I kind of think they fumbled the whole thing. You’re right that it’s easy to say looking back on it. They clearly underestimated the work needed to launch PoE2. The ideal solution would have been to release a new PoE league for November and then get 2 launched when the league dies off in the new year.

Personally, I’m more of a casual player than a go hard for a month at league start and quit. I’ve been playing slowly the entire PoE1 league so it’s not like they are losing out on my business anyway. Tried PoE2, didn't enjoy it, and then kept messing around on Settlers. I’m not at all upset about paying for EA, since I will just buy a couple more stash tabs, but I’m saying that I do see why some people would be sour.
