100k only in steam. Remember they had more than 1 Milion Early Access Key.
Steam was ~50% of it. So most likely 200-250k gone
Also negative review is increasing.
PoE1 has ~10% negative reviews
While PoE2 in 1 week has ~17-18% negative reviews, imagine when the honey moon ends
You have to consider people like me are responsible for 3 keys if not more. If I continue upgrading to the $480 pack like I planned I'll be 1 person who generated 5 keys.
I did give my other two away, but 1,000,000 keys doesn't necessarily mean 1,000,000 players.
i bought 480 usd pack gave keys to friends was hyped about poe 2 and i quit :) i think it has potential but its not ready to even be early access the balance is awful life build = 2k life ES build = 15-20k ES
cold spells = 0 dmg fire spells = dmg
whats left? easy lighting archmage big dmg big defense
theres nothing really to play aside from maybe 3-4 builds
I'm just saying there are definitely $480 pack buyers that just let the keys sit, so while they exist if no one is using them then the player numbers never showed up.

So after 1.0 when the campaign is finished and will no longer be updated it's fine if the game dies?
How are you even drawing that conclusion?
Games can receive post-release support for YEARS after making a hugely successful one-time sale.
Even if GGG tried hard to push PoE1 as "live service existing on repeated small-scale MTX" it doesn't mean it was terribly successful there. And that a good one-time sale can't generate considerably more revenue than years of running MTX over smaller audience.

Hard to take reviews seriously when there was a thread on here yesterday openly admitting to review bombing and encouraging others to do the same.

Loss of player base is expected this early as the hype wears off. The real telling will be if they can get back to the numbers with future major updates.
Keep seeing this parroted, this isn't a PoE 1 league, this is a brand new experience for people to see. No respecing ascendancies and 6 classes so 12 playthroughs if someone *needed* to try everything. Lets be generous and say 20 hours to maps with sub-optimal but not horrible gameplay. That's 240 hours of content to explore (not including maps) if people want it. Seeming like they just don't want it.
stupidest thing I've read today

The nerf happend on the night to the 12th. On the 12th people logged in and realised the nerf aka deletion happened, despite this they really tried hard to make it work anyways. They complained on the forums only to get ignored. This is the reason why we only dropped about 20k players on the 12th.
Today the 13th people is aware the deletion is there so there's no need to login and pickle their brain anymore since there is no new patch to amend this insane mistake.
Yesterday people thought it was just a few complaining but still so many people playing. Well, there's your explanation. People was still trying to make it work and now they're starting to give up. This is just the beginning, it'll get worse, hell a lot worse.
Today we lost 100k players, tomorrow probably more. This is also only the players lost on steam, we have a lot of client-only players lost as well, me included.
ah, sorry, this message is even dumber

All they did manage is to shave off 1% of rating for the moment, so... not like they had much success.

hitting 86 pushing t13 is where i quit every league generally. I'll be back once there are some updates. Specters will be nice once we can use them. Sanctum still sucks and being forced to do it is a dumb choice.

In large numbers it makes no differece (50K+ reviews). Statistically its useless effort

"One campaign run is what most people will play. Then we'll see them returning for 1.0, but likely not any sooner."
^ You said this. That's where where I am drawing the conclusion. If they finish the campaign in 1.0 and it (the campaign) doesn't change by the next league, what are they coming back for?

This also goes the otherway. Anyone claiming the huge player numbers at the start as a sign that people want it are just as dumb as the people who say the early drop off of a non finished early access, live service game is a sign that people don't like it.
Player numbers are a clear indication of sales though.
And it's sales what make games profitable or not, not the time people spend in games. They can even not launch the game once, it doesn't affect the bottom line.
So "huge player numbers" at the start still show that the game gained a good traction and made a good revenue. It indeed doesn't mean that those 500-ish K of players will even complete campaign once, but that's not an amazingly important matter too.
Initial sales numbers are heavily influenced by hype and media campaign. Get enough streamers and youtubers playing the game, you'll inflateyour initial numbers. Initial sales are what makes one time purchase games profitable. Live service games require repeat purchases and thus retuning players of continuous players. It would be a failure to make 30 million in the initial sale and then run in the red for years because you failed to maintain or bring back players that left after the initial experience.
