This idea that PoE is funded by a few dozen idiots who give their entire lives to the company and only the most dedicated of grinders should matter is ludicrous on the surface of it. If you're not trying to entice Casual Carl to play a league once or twice a year, come back and enjoy something new alongside a thirty-dollar pack's worth of cool stuff? You're not marketing the game right.
A few dozen? I'm talking about the large group of people who Chris once referred to as having their souls because they got into maps. Are they $50k/year whales? No, but they're the target with these games and always have been, not the folks who are here to give the campaign a play-through.

So maybe we shouldn't have .... built the game around them?
Your idiotic mentality doesn't seem to grasp that tourists and casuals don't like seasonal content and are totally fine with a one and done run through the campaign.
Because you said so?
People who only occasionally return to the game are still free to buy support packs.
There's no "hours spent in game" requirement for purchasing those, you know.
PS: Also, "we" are not building the game. GGG does.

Not a bad job for 4 days.
But we are long way from the target 10k player base.
We need to remove 400k more players, and your "NERF CHAMBERS" are just not doing it fast enough.
Hear me out:
- Double ascendancy requirement (20 trials).
- Triple monster HP.
- Half DPS of all skills.
If this doesn't do it, Idk what will.
Haha, once the "needs to be as slow/hard/punishing" crowd ACTUALLY hits endgame, they'll change their tune. Most people still aren't there. Once they lose tile after tile and sit at 0% exp because the enemies mechanics from PoE1 still exist just not the player tools.
I'm not saying we even NEED the tools, but losing the tile is too much. I do like the gameplay in 2 and knew what to expect from 2(though I know it's a point of contention). People claim it's to avoid abuse, ok give six portals again and drop a chest ONLY on successful clear. Solved.
You talk as if POE1 ever been able to keep these numbers after 1 week.
You infer that, I didn't imply that. Everyone knows PoE numbers drop during the league. This is day 7 of a completely new game and they've already made "game ruining" loot tweaks to make it more accessible. I do think it's enough for the campaign, but once people actually hit endgame I expect numbers to nosedive. Let me know when you get there and we can talk about it.

Player numbers will be dropping anyway.
But good luck trying to use it as a step-stone for whatever whining you're currently doing.
GGG should care. They wanted PoE2 to target the casuals (Who make up most of the money, you get the Whales there) because the first game is too complex and mashed for most new players, which all companies need to stay making games.
But good luck using your tryhard derision for whatever whining you're currently doing.

If by "casuals" you mean people who play 2-4 hours a day, can reach endgame just fine, and do well, ok.
If you mean "D4 players," no, they never said that. As I mentioned above, their target audience is the average POE 1 player. POE is a niche game, and there's no evidence anywhere that they were planning to stop being niche.

GGG's expectation for casual players is they quit during the campaign. If that's changed, casual players are going to hit maps and quit the second they lose more time for failing a map than they have to play that day/week.

"The only possible way to monetize a video game is to make a tiny fraction of people who play 10k hours or more shoulder the entire financial burden of the company, because those 10k-hour players are The Real Fans and everyone else is just a shitty terrible tourist that doesn't deserve to play the game at all."
My guy, have you heard of "midcore" players? Do you think maybe - just maybe - PoE2 is extremely well positioned to make an honest stab at the midcore crowd, and at converting a higher number of Campaign Carls into midcore players than PoE1 and its ridiculous, impossible cancerous bloat ever could?
