the "difficult as possible" crowd is full of baloney
they always support things that are frustrating and grindy not challenging
I think what they actually want is to make the game unfun for others so they can troll them in the forums when they complain.
the "difficult as possible" crowd i would be willing to bet don't even play the games they just troll
I do see comments and have to wonder if we're playing the same game lol. I think it's mostly they're still stuck in act 2 savoring their "skill". Meanwhile those of us that can press spacebar are able to see the actual issues ahead.
Honestly, this, the game's fine for the campaign, if you can get some decent gear so fight's don't take a couple extra minutes. Most of the issue start really shining towards the endgame when you get to maps and realize the lack of movement options makes maps tedious, you're still one shotting packs and dying to a random pixel you can't even see in the visual clutter. BUild variety is even more strangled by the fact that many builds won't function in the end game. Then there's stupid rare you missed and have to backtrack the WHOLE MAP just to kill. It's all just too big for how slow everything is.

On launch there were 11 people in discord playing together.
Today there are 0.
Not a single person is still playing the game. All of us are 10,000+ hour PoE1 players who play every league.
Path of Exile 2 is not meant of people who enjoy Path of Exile 1. It's that simple.
And so the question remains, can they pull enough people from other audiences to warrant keeping their design focus.

Out of curiosity, everyone is familiar with the concept of the work week, yes? You know, Monday to Friday, when a whole lot of people (like me) have a lot less for things like games? I don't think anyone should panic to see their peak player counts dip a bit during the work week, or to see them dip slightly from the launch week-end. PoE1 does this same thing every single league, and the same doom-sayers are always there to proclaim that league, and the game, to be dead, only to be proven wrong with the very next content launch. I don't think GGG is panicking over their steam stats right now.
Stay sane, exiles!

Not true I like both games. You don't speak for all PoE1 enjoyers and when you guys keep doing it, you give ammo to the "hard as possible" crowd to use disingenuous arguments against MY individual criticisms of the game because I get swept up with the "GGG abandoned us" crowd. If you watched any media leading up to 12/06/24 you would have seen how different this game was intended to be from 1 and never tried it. I was interested in the changes I saw and enjoy most of them, but endgame NEEDS tweaked. I bring it up and all I get is "REEEE you just want PoE 1" because of blanket statements about and from long time PoE 1 players.

This was always gonna happen as the Diablo 4 crowd either finished the available acts, finished their Cruel run of the acts, or got stuck and gave up.
I've been yelled at all week about how awesome the game is by people with 10 hours who are just starting act II lol

100k only in steam. Remember they had more than 1 Milion Early Access Key.
Steam was ~50% of it. So most likely 200-250k gone
Also negative review is increasing.
PoE1 has ~10% negative reviews
While PoE2 in 1 week has ~17-18% negative reviews, imagine when the honey moon ends
You have to consider people like me are responsible for 3 keys if not more. If I continue upgrading to the $480 pack like I planned I'll be 1 person who generated 5 keys.
I did give my other two away, but 1,000,000 keys doesn't necessarily mean 1,000,000 players.
Any chance you can share an extra key so I can give it to my buddy from PoE1? <3

I don't but if I upgrade again it's all yours. Waiting to see how endgame shakes out before I know if I'm sticking around.

Lets be generous and say 20 hours to maps with sub-optimal but not horrible gameplay. That's 240 hours of content to explore
One campaign run is 15-40 hours depending on your pacing (15 for zoom-zoom people, 40 for those who don't have a decent build but don't mind it).
One campaign run is what most people will play. Then we'll see them returning for 1.0, but likely not any sooner.
Your elitist mentality prevents you from understanding that "tourists" or "casuals" will never particularly care about your precious endgame or even campaign loops.
So maybe we shouldn't have .... built the game around them?
Your idiotic mentality doesn't seem to grasp that tourists and casuals don't like seasonal content and are totally fine with a one and done run through the campaign.

Not a bad job for 4 days.
But we are long way from the target 10k player base.
We need to remove 400k more players, and your "NERF CHAMBERS" are just not doing it fast enough.
Hear me out:
- Double ascendancy requirement (20 trials).
- Triple monster HP.
- Half DPS of all skills.
If this doesn't do it, Idk what will.
Haha, once the "needs to be as slow/hard/punishing" crowd ACTUALLY hits endgame, they'll change their tune. Most people still aren't there. Once they lose tile after tile and sit at 0% exp because the enemies mechanics from PoE1 still exist just not the player tools.
I'm not saying we even NEED the tools, but losing the tile is too much. I do like the gameplay in 2 and knew what to expect from 2(though I know it's a point of contention). People claim it's to avoid abuse, ok give six portals again and drop a chest ONLY on successful clear. Solved.
You talk as if POE1 ever been able to keep these numbers after 1 week.

Nothing is stopping him, technically. Practically, he's just not the whale games that are F2P need to grab for significant income. Sure, there's a minimum dollar amount to be a supporter, but let's not be disingenuous about who pays the bills.
No.
The whale monetization model is not sustainable - and I say that as a proven whale. 'Whale bait' so-called games flame out within a year or two, and are deliberately and specifically designed to do so. they're meant to score quick cash grabs by preying on psychologically vulnerable people, then disappear before the operating costs of running an actual-ass game catch up to them - and they abhor large playerbases. They do everything they can to weed out non-paying players as quickly as possible because they're actively and intentionally designed to be unsustainable and are simply fishing for those whale dollars before vanishing into the mists. They should honestly be actively illegal.
Actual long-term successful free-to-play games with for-real audiences require buy-in from a much broader pool of players, and prefer smaller purchases from a much larger player base than relying on a small handful of psychologically addicted whales to provide the bulk of their income. A game like PoE cannot survive on whale money alone - there's not enough whales and not enough money to pay four hundred people and handle the operating costs for a large studio and its two giant live-service games.
Getting a large number of players to buy a thirty-dollar pack once or twice a year is easier, more sustainable, and more ethical than getting one guy to spend fifty thousand dollars a year. Grinding Gear knows this, as they were one of the first wave of MTX-fueled live service games. The entire concept of "leagues" was in part meant to give players a steady stream of jumping-in points to make returning to the game easier after taking a long break, which helps drive recurrent sales.
This idea that PoE is funded by a few dozen idiots who give their entire lives to the company and only the most dedicated of grinders should matter is ludicrous on the surface of it. If you're not trying to entice Casual Carl to play a league once or twice a year, come back and enjoy something new alongside a thirty-dollar pack's worth of cool stuff? You're not marketing the game right.
Sorry but war thunder has proven that whale monetization can work.
