Pesonally I like the difficulty. It reminds me of the early days when we were scared of the Rhoas in the mudflats very early in the campaign.
I fully expect them to gradually make the campaign easier until it becomes trivial in the coming years though. Just like they did with POE1.
Ruining their masterpiece in your words but it's a good thing because after a while the campaign becomes boring for most people no matter what and then you just want to race to endgame and the seasonal mechanics.
They don't have years, having watched and played games since the 80's and seen trends and gaming mistakes most will be out by january. This a game for the few not the many in 2024.
Wasn't it always a hardcore game for the few? Most people will be out by januari but that always happens. People buy games (early acces in this case) based on hype and then find out it's not for them. I'm also very old and have been gaming for 35 years.

They can't afford hardcore for the few... you should know that if you've been gaming 35 years.

"Finally an ARPG that isn't like an ARPG"
...<thinking>..
Exactly!
this game has all the good parts of an ARPG without all mindless game play!
please play POE1 if you want that.
I want the genre to evolve beyond just numbers and clicking.
Well then Ruthless PoE2 Mode will probably be for you when they add it.
No sense in ruining most people's experiences though.
for the millionth time
For us Ruthless player, GGG IS NOT ADDING RUTHLESS TO POE2! THATS WHY WE ARE COMPLAINING!

See the thing is, this isn't your regular one-time purchase game. Its going to be free to play when its out, and it will be live-service with new content every 3 months supposedly. The company literally cannot keep paying server costs and spending money to make content if the game becomes a ghost town after all the people hop off the hype train and the player retention plummets. That's why they need to quickly fix the game, its already made a bad first impression on many players, some people will never touch it again because in their mind it sucks. So many have quit already. And that hype period will not last forever, nor is it sustainable or profitable for a game like this.

I claim they have managed just that for 10 years.

Really smart guy, now they have two games to pay for and the dev money and poe 2 as a live service. Money doesn't just appear.

Yeah definitely don't listen to the part of the community that has financially supported them for their life of there product.
Listen to the new players of which 90% will play for 2 weeks every year.
People that like PoE2 will invest into it even if you wont. There is no way to satisfy both sides. So for people who prefer PoE1 over PoE2 can simply go back and play PoE1. GGG should stick to their vision for the game instead of catering to all the complainers. People that like the game will stick around and support it. I know I will.
Put in perspective: there are people who will be unhappy no matter what GGG does. One side requires a lot of effort to satisfy (rebalance the game) than the other. That's not even considering which side's vision is better for server fees and newbie friendliness.
And the more blunt point: expecting corporations to care about customer loyalty over revenue? Friends and lovers are who to turn to for long-term loyalty. A corporation that's on the cusp of seizing a large market segment would be very conservative to throw that away to appease past customers. A conservative game studio wouldn't have made a new game in the first place.
Kubler-Ross, 5 stages of grief. Denial was not noticing the details in announcements that this was GGG's vision. Anger was the initial uproar. Now we're in negotiation: "can we have a second mode?"

I agree with the sentiment of not making the game too easy, and I will be disappointed if GGG just caves and makes everything a joke, but I do think there's some room for adjustments with things like enemy HP in some cases, enemy damage in some cases, mob density in an area like Valley of Titans, maybe buff some player damage on skills, etc...I don't think it's too much to ask that a few things here and there be adjusted a bit.
I'm still having fun overall and for the most part the difficulty is cool, so far, but as a particular example of something lame, I really heavily disliked that Kabala, Constrictor Queen effectively has like 700 health bars because her energy shield regenerates so quickly and also isn't interrupted by damage; anything particularly lame like that should be adjusted and adjusted sooner rather than later.

Kabala regenerates her energy shield if you go outside the ring. I do think the ring is a tad too small, but otherwise it's a decent puzzle boss to encourage setting up AoE so you don't die to being mobbed by the adds while standing in the ring.
Small tweaks are perfectly reasonable to expect in an Early Access. The big fight is over the schism in the playerbase, which has long been coming when PoE 1 made ruthless mode. Xyclucian the Chimera was my "this boss isn't tuned right" moment, when it spends so much time flying.

That's a good point. They sold a million early acces and it's very difficult for a company to not try and monetize that by catering to the largest crowd possible. We'll see how it plays out. In the past GGG has always largely kept to their vision and proven it's financially viable.
