Why do PoE veterans act as if both can't coexist, or are mutually exclusive even?
I'm not sure I follow by "as if both can't coexist". Could you elaborate??
There seems to be the false dichotomy on this forum that you can either like PoE1, OR PoE2, but not both. That if you like one, you must logically hate the other.
Oh that's different. I don't think that's the case for everyone at large or even the majority. While I don't go around and pound my chest that PoE2 is perfect and shouldn't be touched I have made it clear that I think PoE2 [for it's prime target audience] should be a darned good game and it's S-Tier for something in E.A. and I haven't felt a single ounce of hate from PoE1 [or D1 or D2] people.
Is it possible that some people think other folks are here to troll?? Absolutely. Is it possible some people, if they consider that they were verbally attacked, would be suspicious -- even more so.
Is liking PoE2 and PoE1 a contradiction?? Perhaps but as someone else posted .. maybe I want a hamburger today and maybe I want a hot dog tomorrow.

I think the difficulty is okay, it will need only adjustments regarding loot and balancing.
Less loot is fine, but when I beat an act boss, I would like to see a high chance to get some rare items and high quality currency.
But overall I love it, that the world is "dirty and hard" from the first minute on, would be boring to faceroll through the game...
So I would beg GGG to adjust and fix, but not completely change it like it is. It´s hard, and it´s fine.

I love PoE2 :) and i love the fact that its slower and harder and u dont get everything handed to u. I have played PoE1 since 2013 and the last 3-4 years i felt like the game was going in the wrong direction. It became way too focus on clearspeed and many mechanics and rewards was way too reliant on having the fastest clearspeed possible which in my opinion kind of ruined the build diversity and made certain builds more or less unplayable and not really viable for endgame content. The balancing in PoE1 was pretty much about scaling the endgame content to fit the dps output of the top performing meta builds instead of balancing those builds which resulted in many builds not being viable anymore. But yeah thats just my honest opinion and i do love the slower and harder pace of PoE2 + the fact that u dont get insane amounts of loot and currency from every single map. If i have to pick one thing i dont think is fair in PoE2 it would be having the first ascendancy tied to a sanctum mechanic since some builds will have a really hard time doing that type of content even when massively overleveled because of how the sanctum mechanic works
POE2 will become that too. It will have probably have even fewer viable builds due to the emphasis on difficulty, your lower power builds will be that much more underpowered compared to POE1. Leagues will recreate the need and desire to rush through the campaign in the fastest most efficient way possible. People hate slogging through the POE1 compaign, they'll hate it even more in POE2. A difficult longer campaign is great when you don't have to repeatedly do it. It becomes a hindrance as soon as you expect players to do it multiple times.
Some might hate it yes especially all the zoom zoom fans but i was never really a fan of that playstyle even though i have probably around 15k + hours in PoE1. I think PoE1 was at its peak around 2016-17 and since then it has been going the wrong direction and become way too bloated. I really hope this time they wont listen too all the whining people cause i like the fact that its different and harder/slower, i dont need another copy of the same game. Besides i dont think they will balance the content around the top performing builds, i really do hope they will balance the builds instead cause thats the only real way to get some build diversity

I don't zoom zoom play and while I don't have the number of hours you have in POE1, the campaign was and still is a low point. The fact that POE1 continued to grow well into 2024 tells me that people liked and preferred the faster play and getting through the campaign faster. POE2 has enough differences in mechanics and systems, making the campaign faster to get through won't make it the same game as POE1. If it does, then it means those systems aren't as evolutionary as the devs claim. You can make a slower game with harder combat, without making it a slog. The slowness combined with the larger maps and backtracking with stupid amounts of mobs that are deadly just exacerbates the issue. Keep the bosses difficult, but make the mobs easier to kill (don't lower their damage) to speed up general traversal.

I don’t doubt they care about the loyal fan base they have built, however GGG is no longer the same studio when they first started.
Right now, they are trying to capture the Elden ring and d4 playerbass most likely hoping to transition them over to residual league players, however this change has alienated their core base as this isn’t the Poe we have grown to love it’s something different entirely.
This alone isn’t a bad thing, it’s more of expectations are meeting reality and I think that’s where a lot of the angst is coming from.
Why do PoE veterans act as if both can't coexist, or are mutually exclusive even?
PoE 2 was first announced as being same game as PoE 1
It would be same game with 2 campaigns
Then it became to seperate games later on
So for many people this WAS PoE 1
PoE is a live service game, a seasonal game
We would get a new major update every 3 months
That's what made the game keep feeling interresting
I guess we can't say for sure, but it doesn't seem unreasonable to worry that PoE 1 will be get much less attention now that PoE 2 is out
If one is not a fan of PoE 2, this can ofc be bad news
It went from
"We're getting this new campaign for PoE 1"
to
"We've gotten a new game that's very different from the game I liked"
Myself, I have many problems with the game, but there's 6-12 months to go of early access
Lets see where the game will be then

But would also like to point out that there's many things I find so good about PoE 2
I'm optimistic (trying to be at least ^^)
