PoE is better than D2...
Let's just accept that the environment and the looks of monsters in D2 are far superior to those of PoE.
D2 Act 4 was probably the best act of the whole game in terms of its artistic design, very dark, very desolate and full of vile monstrosities. What about PoE? You go from coast to city center. Woooo epic journey material right there. In D2 you can visit a Sanctuary created by an extremely powerful mage, a maze of paradox so to speak. In PoE, you can go to coast, lake, sea shore. Actually that's all the game is about. Water, water everywhere. I am still waiting for a desert Act in PoE. The monsters were spectacular too. This is one point I really think could use some improvements: In D2 the second act boss is a giant Hell Bug that's gives you the creeps the moment you enter its chamber. In PoE the second act boss is a giant vacuum cleaner. Last edited by Millennium#2029 on Jun 22, 2013, 3:58:58 PM

I consider PoE closer to D1. The monsters overall are similar )skeles, zombies, goats, dark knights, etc), D1 does trump it in setting, although PoE easily trumps D2 in setting except for act 4.
Skill systems are similar, finding books vs finding gems. Overall I feel PoE is a successor to D1, then D2. Although, if they re-released D1 with updated graphics, and the ability for weapon skills to drop as books instead of just spells. I don't think I would ever play another game. True. I'm still in love with D1 and always liked it better than D2 - although, to be fair, I liked some D1 mods better than D2; no, that's not right, either. I liked the atmosphere, story, etc. better than D2 and with some mods I also liked the game play better.
But since here we compare D2 and PoE, I'll throw in my opinions. It is true, that at first I was a bit put off by the setting. Act I starts all dark and forboding and it's OK. Being on the coast is something of a novelty. You enter Lioneye's Watch - still OK, setting fits. Then the (old) terraces - wow, a sunny beach. Let's collect some shells; way better now Mud flats - well, you can't always have dark, but they are kinda, well, jolly. Fetid pool - well done, much better than, let's say, the Great Marsh in D2 (I don't care much for D2 A3, anyway). Cave levels - I like them. Dark, wet, mazey. Ledge - I wish I were a tourist and had my camera. Nice view. Not so great as a setting for an aRPG imo Levels to prison and after prison - Let's take a hike in the mountains, not my favourite setting. I also hate the goats (they're too much like in D3 - best goats were those in D1, they were demonic) Prison - Good old typical dungeon. I like it. Better than D2's levels in the monastery... dunno. I think both were good Ship graveyard - nice, gloomy, actually well done and so fitting the whole coast scenario Act II: Forest - well, no, I don't really like it as a setting. Looks like a nice place for a walk if it weren't for those damn monkeys. outside levels - too bright for my taste; much better after activating the thingy in the waterfall cavern Cave levels - nice in act II, too. I like the dread thicket - i might be the only one going there, though :D. Chamber of sins - really nicely done. I like the cave in sections with tree roots showing. Fellshrine ruins - nice, too - really like them Cathedral - as above Vaal Pyramid - well done Act III: I generally like Act III minus the "city levels" above ground level. Sewers are fine. Temples are nice, too. Lunaris is especially well done (atmosphere), while I wouldn't call it nice for obvious reasons. So, in my opinion PoE has a good bunch of really nice levels, whereas the levels where one of the first things I didn't like that much in D2. As I said above, dungeons were OK. Act IV is nice, too. So is Arcane Sanctuary. I dislike most of the outside levels of D2, especially in Act II, III and V. There's no part of Act V that I really like for its level design. Bird lover of Wraeclast

My grandfathers sweaty testicles have better graphics and game play than D2. Game was hacked and botted to shit. if you don't like Poe don't play it don't post here for attention call your parents to your room from down stairs for that.

Apples and Oranges.
Lol @ the nostalgia in this thread. I played D2 for years, but man. Almost as bad as Nintendo fanboys. ॐ "Metal Gear!?!?!?" ॐ

PoE may be theoretically better with some better designed systems, but D2 is light years ahead when it comes to execution, and things like fun factor, economy being irrelevant for 99% of players, etc etc

if you guys do some research, you will find out that POE is the next diablo.
1) A group of friends and dedicated fans of diablo 2 found GGG. 2) Laz who made the best D2 mod is in GGG. Blizzard is a bitch and thus we have a shit D3. If blizzard was better, POE will have been D3. |
