Feels like a scumbag moment from GGG

Regardless of whether it’s branded as early access or a release, the game is being sold in it's current state and that's what really matters.

The game is not even sold.
And when the game is only 3 acts instead of 6, there are only two ways to ascend instead of 3 and only two ascendancies per class instead of 3 (and only 6 classes and not 12), you can't say that it is ready.
Moreover, we don't know anything about bugs.

So, no, the game is not ready for release and it is not sold at all. You can't buy PoE... at least not for 30 dollars.

A new player wouldn’t understand most of what you just said, and would likely buy the game anyway because it’s fully playable, functional, and offers a solid core experience.
Nothing scummy at all, perfectly reasonable. They also did right by their longtime supporters (like me), I got an email saying here's a key since you've supported the game for so long.

They do right by their customers and always have.

The game will be free when the finished version is released. That hasn't changed. They are charging for access to an early version which is not final and will probably change often over the course of early access. Those who are paying for access to EA all know that. GGG has let it be known numerous times that EA is NOT the final free version. People have a choice: pay for early access, or patiently wait for the final free version to be released.

PoE will never be "complete" in any sense due to its ongoing development, technically remaining in early access forever, so the term "complete" is quite meaningless. The game is already in good condition, fully playable and that's why they are marketing it and selling it. The teeny-tiny problem is that they made a free-to-play promise that they don't want to break, and that's why we are seeing this circus.

What a joke. Just because a game like this will be in constant development until the end of its cycle doesn't mean is not "complete".

You seem like someone who barely touched the original, coming here thinking you know more than people who have been playing it and supporting it for years. What you're paying for, if you choose to, is a fee to enter the closed beta. You can always wait 6-12 months and play the finished game for free.

Consider me shocked, there's actually people that don't know how a profit oriented business operates. And GGG is even one of the better ones in the industry. What exactly do they teach in schools today? Surely not basic economics by the looks of it.

yeah but gamers do not care about early access title or anything like that, they see the game being released, they want it like hungry dogs. GGG is just charging $30 and taking advantage of people because they can get away with it and will make the money as if this is a paid release of a game when its NOT. Having their cake and eating it too at our expense.

Good night, how arsinine can one be

But 99% of gamer today, especially people playing in-depth, hardcore video games, know what an "early access" is. And ALL players should ALWAYS(!!) expect an incomplete product when voluntarily entering an early access. Hell, it's in the god damn name.

You are NOT paying for the game. You are paying for the right to test the game and get an equal amount of points in return.

I seriously don't understand the big deal here. It's pretty common in today's market to charge for early access. I also don't understand why it's worse for a future F2P to do so. And just to mention: PoE 2 isn't a F2P game. It WILL be a F2P game when it releases.

"Scumbags"? Nah, not for charging for EA. But for loot/mystery boxes? Absolutely, but that's a different discussion.

Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
All those topics about EA is just some salty kids complaining that others will play the game before them because mom wont give them money. Thats how i see it.

Players asked for a way to access EA, GGG gave it and you still cry over it. I know you think "free" is a fair price but go touch grass. The other option would be random draw (and you wouldnt be in it anyway) or no EA at all and we would have to wait another year. I gladly paid 30$, they deserve it and the pack is worth it.

Players didn't ask for anything. They just repeated the same model from when the original game was in closed beta, simple as that.
I think a large part of the distaste for GGG here is the fact that it's massively advertised as a F2P game, across its social media, on youtube, on steam, etc. when in reality the game is locked behind a $30+ purchase for up to a year, likely more.

They advertise as F2P, which obviously attracts attention, while charging players to play. They could've easily had it release now as F2P, and make money from their insanely expensive cosmetics, but they want to rake in that $$$ from early access keys.

If any big name company did something like this you'd all be losing your minds. Fact.

They did ask, there were many posts here and on reddit hoping we will be able to get into EA and it wont be just for streamers.
