The state of Beta Feedback

Literally the day that chris responded talking about how he wants good communication, the devs have since all disappeared from the feedback forums for 5 days.

Weekend plus public holidays.

Also, much of the feedback we receive is on balance or specific design decisions... topics that only a select few of us are qualified to answer with any authority. A select few with a lot on their plate already...

I figured there was probably a reason, but think about this.

Option 1. Disappear during a time where the forum tension has been rising very rapidly

Option 2. Announcement Forum > New Thread > Public holiday >

Chris: Hey guys, chris here. Just letting you know that there is a public holiday coming up, so we at GGG will be gone for an extra day this weekend. We'll be back on monday (or whatever day you're going to be back)!

Yeah. That seems rather obvious. This is basic PR.

just because they aren't posting in every thread doesn't mean the stuff doesn't get seen.

That's not the point. First of all, they post on reddit constantly and answer things on reddit that have been posted here for VERY long (http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/30596/page/4). Secondly, it's in GGG's best interest to respond to threads.

Why? Because if they need the feedback and want it on the forums like they claim, they HAVE to give players acknowledgement, otherwise they do what is currently happening: The quality of feedback quickly and heavily declines, eventually to the point of it disappearing. What you're left with after that is a cesspool of poorly thought out feedback, because the people who actually want to spend the time on well thought out constructive feedback feel like it's a waste of time.

Thirdly, GGG claims it's easier for them if we post feedback here. Them posting on reddit more often encourages us to NOT post feedback here, but on reddit.

GGG is literally making it harder for themselves, and they aren't saving any time either because they're still posting on reddit quite often. Take a bunch of that reddit time, throw it over into forum time (you know, since its YOUR forum.).

That public holiday was one day on Thursday (Wed for you in the US), and the point of this thread is not that we expect things to change instantly, more that the continuing avoidance of beta feedback forums is hurting GGG's feedback, as they will get less and less indepth and valuable feedback from those high quality members (xendran and moos to name a few), and more and more feedback from people just complaining about how LA needs a nerf (which we all know is not really a solution to the major problems)
Devs constantly saying there is too little time to respond to stuff, it's just a cover up as they post way more often on Reddit then here and don't want to admit it.

I know some devs are doing an alright job like Russel in the "Beta Art, Areas and Effects Feedback" forum and Andrew in the "Beta Audio Feedback" forum but it isn't enough.

There's also a somewhat okay amount of activity from GGG in the Bug Reports forum but virtually none in the Feedback or Suggestion forum.

It's quite easy to respond to technical stuff. You basically cannot mess it up, especially given it is your area of expertise :)

It's quite impossible to respond to debates on game design ideology. You will estrange players. And obviously it will result in less money. This is why I think that you hear not a single peep from the devs in topics that deal with even minimally controversial issues.

very, very much love for this nugget of "WINsdom"

Also, they're not all completely unified in their ideas themselves. Let's not forget that, there's no publisher sitting there holding their souls in a large glass container sitting on a throne of skulls warning them to

"make me money, or your souls are damned forever"
Well, we do know at least that they are all ninja-looters. We also know that while not having a publisher, they have a lead designer, and he thinks that the economy is the most important aspect of the game. And that they are (not sure if all) veterans of "online RPGs" (so I'd think they played other stuff than D2 as well...). And they played "hardcore" (we don't know what hardcore means to them, though...).

Feel free to add to this if you have information (from interviews&stuff, not from "psychic" probing...)

I wonder how diamond supporters feel? Was it worth the 1 thousand dollars to get a item in the game that less and less people are playing daily?

I'm only one person, but you asked, so...

I am absolutely delighted with my decision to become a Diamond Supporter - even more so than when I made the decision (the last days of CB). I think this game is tremendous and getting better all the time. I get more enjoyment out of this game and the friendships I have made in this game than I have in any other game I have played in over 25 years of gaming.

I think there is some outstanding feedback in this thread and many others. However, the sense of entitlement shown by some boggles my mind.

Think some of you can do better? Go do it - less talk, more trouser.

Petrov.

Not convinced it's actually newsworthy...

However, Mark is taking the next week or so off for a holiday, so he'll probably be posting less for a while. But knowing him, he'll probably still make the occasional post... :P

Can you list any benefits of not doing it?
Because you've already seen the downsides.
