People will be done with Elden ring in about 2-3 weeks, no matter how good it is. Single player games aren't even a speedbump in the progression of MMO's like PoE.

It's only real competition will come in the form of another ARPG, of which there is none right now. D4 is years away, and its ability to impact is questionable at best.

I am repeating myself, but look at what wow classic did to blight league. Or do you think there was a different cause?

There will be nothing surprising in Lost Ark sitting in the aRPG throne when it releases.

My prediction is that PoE will continue to lose player base until PoE 2 releases. Then it depends how good PoE 2 is and whether it can stand against the other popular aRPGs at that time.

Overall PoE time has passed and PoE 2 was a mistake from the start - they should have focused on developing a new game with a modern engine long before PoE 2 was announced.

The aRPG genre needs innovation to stay relevant as of 2022 and there is space for it. As someone completely understanding the design direction aRPGs should go to not be dissembled slowly by the popularity of other game genres, I can assure you that it is possible. The secret for that lies in designing aRPGs to be as procedural as possible.

Poe has gained playerbase.
New engine?
Just need higher texture bases which poe2 will have.
People crave new content more than rehearsing old content.

Lost ark will dwindle down.
elden ring the same.

so your comment is actually a bunch of conjecture which isn't based on the current reality for poe.

Diablo4 however is coming and if blizzard don't mess it up it be nr1.
all depends if they can balance gameplay with progress and difficulty.
and deliver fresh new content every 3 months or so.
New content triumph old content.

Poe2 needs to fix visual clutter and well see how they manage that alongside a ton of qol they need

2-3 weeks longer than the 1 week before league dies these days
They said Diablo 2 Resurrected will kill PoE.

And what happened?

D2R died after a week and PoE is still here.

Same will happen with Lost Ark.

No1 says that Lost Ark will kill PoE in the long term, but it might have an impact on 3.17. That's all this thread is about btw.
Lost Ark is surely crippling PoE and sitting on the aRPG throne until PoE 2 appears. From then on - it's a battle for player base and the game with more quality updates wins long term.

One thing that might be problematic is if PoE 2 doesn't simplify the mechanics, but rather adds more trash to the already existing stuff. Then PoE 2 would actually have a negative effect on its player base and the game will be officially dead.

A lot of exciting moments on the aRPG scene with LA, D4 and PoE 2 coming. It's a good time to be an aRPG player.

I don't think there's going to be much competition between any of these games. They're pretty apples and oranges.
